Omoda 7 arrives to take on the compact SUV class
Chery's Omoda 7 is set to join the competitive family-SUV segment in the UK, positioning itself against established models like the Kia Sportage and Hyundai Tucson. With both conventional petrol and plug-in hybrid powertrains, a roomy 4.6-metre body and a price point that undercuts many rivals, the Omoda 7 aims to attract buyers hunting for value, tech and electric capability.
Brand momentum: Omoda's fast UK rollout
Omoda first entered the UK market in August 2024 and followed up quickly: the Omoda 5 arrived first, with the flagship Omoda 9 launching in early 2025. Those two models delivered a strong start for the Chinese marque — sales in 2025 have already surpassed Lexus, and Omoda looks set to overtake Citroën soon. While Omoda continues expanding its lineup globally (recently unveiling the Omoda 4 in China and teasing the Omoda 2), the Omoda 7 will be its third UK offering.

Design and interior
Omoda has given the 7 a distinct design language that departs from its siblings. The exterior features striking LED headlamps with a lightning-inspired internal graphic and bold front fascia lines. Inside, the cabin is dominated by a 15.6-inch touchscreen, a redesigned steering wheel and modern trim that emphasizes tech and comfort for family use.
Highlights
- Length: 4.6 metres — larger than many rivals including the Tucson and Sportage
- Signature LED lighting and refreshed exterior styling
- 15.6-inch touchscreen and updated steering wheel
Powertrains and performance
Mechanically, the Omoda 7 mirrors the Jikoo 7 strategy: a conventional petrol option plus a plug-in hybrid (branded as the Super Hybrid system). The base engine is a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol unit producing around 145 hp, paired to a seven-speed automatic gearbox. The plug-in hybrid combines a 1.5-litre petrol engine with an electric motor for a combined output of 201 hp. Its 18.3 kWh battery delivers an official electric range of approximately 56 miles (about 90 km) — more electric range than some rivals such as the Ford Kuga and Kia Sportage PHEV, but less than the VW Tiguan PHEV’s roughly 77-mile figure.

Price, trims and availability
Omoda’s competitive pricing is a major selling point: the Omoda 7 starts at £29,915, lower than many segment competitors, while the plug-in hybrid variant is priced around £32,000. Two trim levels will be offered: Night and Noble.
Night includes 19-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone climate control, a heated steering wheel and wireless phone charging. Noble adds a Sony 12-speaker audio system, electrically adjustable, heated and ventilated front seats, a panoramic sunroof and an electric tailgate.
"At this price and with a competitive PHEV range, Omoda 7 could reshape buyer choices in the family SUV market," industry analysts say.
Orders for the Omoda 7 open in January 2026, with deliveries scheduled soon after. For families seeking a tech-forward, value-packed SUV with plug-in capability, the Omoda 7 is one to watch.
