Virtual Design Imagines Mazda's Electric Pickup
Mazda's design language is getting an electric rewrite — at least in the virtual world. Indonesian digital artist Dimas Ramadhan of Digimods DESIGN has released CGI renders imagining a 2027 Mazda BT-50e, a fully electric take on Mazda's mid-size pickup. The concept borrows heavily from Mazda's recent electric crossovers, blending familiar styling cues with pickup proportions to deliver a bold, premium-looking truck.

From CX-6e Influence to Pickup Proportions
The BT-50e renders clearly draw inspiration from Mazda's newly introduced CX-6e and the Mazda 6e. The front fascia mirrors the electric crossover's softer, more aerodynamic face, while the rear adopts full-width LED lighting and gloss-black trim elements that give the concept a contemporary, upscale feel. Ramadhan even chose Mazda's Nightfall Violet — the same deep purple hue used on the CX-6e — which surprisingly suits the rugged silhouette and accentuates the truck's sculpted surfaces.
Design highlights in the CGI include:
- A CX-6e-like front end with slim grille treatment
- Full-width LED taillight bar and pronounced wheel arches
- Large alloy wheels and gloss-black cladding for a premium look

Hypothetical Powertrain and Range
If Mazda were to electrify the BT-50 using the same architecture as the CX-6e, the imagined BT-50e would likely ditch the Isuzu D-Max underpinnings used on petrol/diesel versions. The speculative powertrain in these renders includes a single rear-mounted electric motor producing roughly 255 hp paired with a 78-kWh lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery. Fast charging capability at around 195 kW DC is also a natural fit, offering reasonable mid-range electric pickup performance and practical recharge times for longer trips.
Of course, these specifications are hypothetical — a creative projection based on Mazda's electric crossover components — but they offer a useful benchmark for what an electrified mid-size pickup could look like under Mazda's skin.

Market Reality: Is an Electric BT-50 Viable?
Despite the attractive visuals and plausible EV specs, the business case for a Mazda BT-50e is uncertain. Mazda is actively expanding its pure-electric lineup in Europe with the Mazda 6e and CX-6e — models developed in partnership with Changan — and Europe remains a key market for the brand's EV push. Yet the conventional BT-50 has already been withdrawn from the European market, which complicates prospects for an electric pickup aimed at that same region.
In North America, Mazda needs momentum: the brand sold about 410,000 vehicles last year, a slight decline from 2024 and a reminder that new models must both excite customers and sell in volume. The all-new CX-5, priced to start under $30,000 in the U.S. and offered in the new Navy Blue Mica color, looks set to boost sales more than a niche electric pickup would — at least in the short term.

Verdict
The Digimods BT-50e renders are an intriguing look at how Mazda's EV identity could be translated to a pickup. They combine attractive electric styling with sensible battery and motor assumptions. Still, commercial reality—market demand, regional availability, and Mazda's strategic priorities—makes a production BT-50e unlikely in the near future.
Would you want an electric BT-50 from Mazda? The virtual concept makes a compelling case, but only time (and market strategy) will tell if Mazda decides to bring a true BT-50e to dealers.
