Samsung’s next foldable might finally stop announcing itself with a visible line down the middle. Rumors have wandered for months — crease-free promises, incremental display tweaks, and whispers that Samsung was closing the gap on rivals. Now a well-known tipster says the latest Fold8 prototype shows crease control on par with Oppo’s Find N6.
Ice Universe, who has a mixed but often accurate track record, walked back an earlier claim that the Fold8’s crease “doesn't improve much.” The clarification: that comment applied to an early test build. The newer sample, according to the tipster, looks much better — comparable to the Find N6’s impressively subtle fold.
That’s a big deal because the Find N6 set a high bar for minimizing the fold without sacrificing durability. Small improvements in material science and hinge engineering can translate to a noticeably smoother viewing experience. In short: less distraction when you’re watching video, reading, or using split-screen apps.
The leaks don’t stop at the display. Ice Universe also dropped a naming curveball: what was thought to be the base Fold8 will apparently ship as the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, while the wider model will be branded simply as the Galaxy Z Fold8. The change is said to be recent — a last-minute marketing twist that could reshape how Samsung positions the lineup.
Other rumored details remain murky. The Fold8 series is reportedly not inheriting the S26 Ultra’s Privacy Screen feature, but there are claims it will support the S Pen. That’s the kind of split decision that shows Samsung is prioritizing certain productivity features while leaving others on the table.
When will we know for sure? The most persistent rumor pins the launch to July 22. Until then, expect more test units, color samples, and naming debates to leak out — and perhaps another revision that tightens the crease even further.
For now, the conversation is less about whether Samsung can flatten a fold and more about when it will be obvious enough to matter to everyday users.
