Caviar’s iPhone 17 Pro Max With a Built-In Watch Vault

Imagine slipping a wristwatch into the back of your phone and walking out the door. Strange? Yes. Spectacular? Also yes.

Caviar, the Russian atelier that has turned iPhones into small sculptures — sometimes using dinosaur bone or meteorite — has unveiled the Masters of Time collection: iPhone 17 Pro Max handsets reworked to accept full-size Swiss mechanical watches inside a rear-mounted compartment.

They didn’t glue a dial to the case. Instead, engineers built a mechanical quick-release system directly into the chassis. You lock a compatible watch into a short-thread ring with a lever. Twist. Click. The watch pops free with no tools needed, ready to snap onto a strap and go back on your wrist.

Wear and care were clearly part of the brief. The cavity that holds the watch is lined in soft material to stop metal cases from rubbing against titanium or gold. When the watch is removed, a decorative metal cover — engraved like an astrolabe on some models — snaps into the void so the phone retains a finished look instead of a gaping hole.

Two single-edition pieces lead the launch. The Celestial centers on a Patek Philippe Celestial and dresses the phone in 18-karat white gold, blue enamel, diamonds and a slice of Muonionalusta meteorite. The Portugieser is built around an IWC Portugieser Tourbillon Mystère Squelette and combines white-gold engraving with white diamonds and orange sapphires to echo the watch’s exposed tourbillon.

There are concept renders too — a Casino Tourbillon by Jacob & Co. and a Rolex Sky-Dweller among them — and Caviar will reportedly make bespoke chassis for owners whose watches fit the 42–44 mm case range. In short: bring your Swiss watch and they’ll tailor the phone around it.

The white gold Celestial model is priced at $215,360. If that gives you sticker shock, there’s a titanium option aimed at Omega collectors that starts at $49,640. These are not just accessories; they’re collector-grade objects that add noticeable heft to your pocket.
