Rear displays used to be a party trick. Now they might be becoming a practical feature. According to a Weibo leaker, the Xiaomi 18 Pro will push that idea hard — its rear screen is said to grow from the 17 Pro's 2.7-inch panel to a sizeable 4-inch display.

That jump isn't just about inches. Sources claim the new panel will deliver higher brightness and greater resolution, resulting in a noticeably denser pixels-per-inch count. Bigger rounded corners are also on the rumor sheet, giving the secondary screen a more modern, cohesive look with the phone's overall design.

There's also chatter about privacy-focused features. Reports reference protections similar to what Samsung is exploring for the Galaxy S26 Ultra, though early signs suggest those controls might apply to the main display rather than the rear. Still, the line between convenience and privacy is getting blurrier — and manufacturers are trying to navigate that trade-off.

Timing looks familiar: the Xiaomi 18 family — the Xiaomi 18, 18 Pro, and 18 Pro Max — are expected to debut in September. Performance-wise, the Pro models will likely run on Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 Pro, while the standard 18 could ship with the non-Pro Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6.

What does a 4-inch rear screen actually buy you? For one, the main camera can finally double as a true selfie tool without relying on a tiny status display. Widgets, glanceable notifications, music controls and quick camera previews all become more usable when they aren't shoehorned into a 2–3 inch window. Developers might get creative, too; a larger secondary surface invites companion apps and new interaction models.
