Lenovo Tab Plus Gen 2 Amplifies Sound and Screen Quality

Ever been in a room and suddenly the tablet becomes the loudest thing there? Lenovo's new Tab Plus Gen 2 aims to do exactly that — and then some. It keeps the playful spirit of the original while sharpening the parts that matter: sound, screen, and everyday smarts.

Sound is the headline. Lenovo upgraded the audio hardware to a JBL 9-unit Pro speaker array with dedicated bass drivers and full Dolby Atmos support. The company calls it a Cinematic Audio System, and it behaves like one: richer lows, clearer mids, and spatial cues that actually make movies feel bigger. There’s a neat-party trick too — a Bluetooth speaker mode that lets the tablet act as a standalone wireless speaker for your phone. Portable audio that doesn’t sound tinny. Finally.

The screen grows up this generation. The Tab Plus Gen 2 moves to a 12.1-inch LCD at 2560 x 1600 (2.5K) with Dolby Vision and HDR10. The kickstand rotates a full 360 degrees, making it easy to flip between landscape for shows and portrait for video calls without awkward propping.

Under the hood sits MediaTek’s Dimensity 7400, a meaningful step up over the Helio G99 the previous model used. You can pick from 6GB, 8GB, or 12GB of RAM, paired with 128GB or 256GB storage options. There’s also a microSD slot that supports cards up to 2TB, which will make heavy media hoarders happy. It ships with Android 16 and promises two major OS upgrades and security patches through 2030.

Battery life is generous: a 10,200mAh cell Lenovo rates for up to 15 hours of continuous YouTube playback, and the slate supports 45W fast charging (note: the fast charger isn’t included in the box). The device leans into a substantial feel — about 775g and peaking at roughly 22.7mm around the speaker array — but that weight matches the tablet’s purpose. Celestial White is the color option shown, and the design already earned an iF Design Award.

Performance, audio chops, and a larger display come at an attractive entry price: roughly $400 (about £370) to start, with availability rolling out to markets such as the UK, Singapore, and Australia in the near term.
