Imagine an iPhone that finally outlasts your day. Short sentence.
A fresh leak now pins down the numbers for the iPhone 18 Pro Max — and unlike vague whispers, this one comes with specific capacities: the eSIM-only model is said to carry a 5,425 mAh cell, while the version with a physical SIM slot reportedly has a 5,235 mAh battery.
Apple has been nudging the industry toward eSIM for a while, and the space saved by ditching a SIM tray seems to be paying off on the battery front. Sound familiar? Last year followed a similar pattern: the iPhone 17 Pro Max’s physical-SIM version used a 4,823 mAh battery, while its eSIM-only sibling packed 5,088 mAh. That means, if these numbers hold, the 18 Pro Max would gain roughly 412 mAh on the physical-SIM model and about 337 mAh on the eSIM variant compared with its predecessor.

Put another way: this rumor would make the iPhone 18 Pro Max the largest battery ever in a non-folding iPhone, edging past the Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra’s 5,000 mAh cell. That’s a notable shift for a product line that historically leaned on efficient silicon and software tuning rather than sheer battery capacity.
Still — a caveat. Leaks can be messy. Early prototypes, multiple suppliers, and last-minute design changes all introduce uncertainty. And raw capacity isn’t the whole story. Power efficiency, display tech, background processes, thermal behavior and charging speeds determine how those milliamp-hours translate to real-world screen time.
For users, bigger numbers usually mean longer video playback, more hours of navigation and fewer mid-day charging panics. But there are trade-offs: larger cells can add weight and change internal packaging, and they demand careful thermal management to protect longevity.
If accurate, the iPhone 18 Pro Max would represent the biggest battery boost we've seen in a non-folding iPhone — and a sign that Apple may finally make capacity a headline feature.
Will the extra milliamp-hours be the reason people upgrade? That remains to be seen.
