Redmi 17C 5G: 6.9-inch Screen and 6,000mAh Power Lands

Imagine a budget phone that borrows the display from a small tablet and the stamina of a camping lantern. That’s the first impression the Redmi 17C 5G delivers: a huge 6.9-inch panel, a 6,000mAh battery and 5G radios, wrapped in a package that still aims to be affordable.

The screen is an LCD with a 1600×720 resolution and a surprisingly smooth 120Hz refresh option. Brightness peaks at 660 nits normally and jumps to 810 nits in HBM mode, with DC dimming and TÜV Rheinland certification to ease long-session eye strain. Simple on paper. Solid in practice.

Battery life is the headline. A 6,000mAh cell suggests two days of light-to-moderate use. Fast charging support goes up to 33W, but take note: the box contains a 15W adapter. That mismatch is becoming a budget phone trope—capable hardware, cautious packaging.

Photography keeps things straightforward. A 50MP main sensor with an f/1.8 aperture handles daytime shots and boosts low-light performance when you flip on Night mode. An auxiliary lens assists basic depth work while Portrait and HDR modes add finishing touches. Video tops out at 1080p/30fps. Selfies land on an 8MP front camera with HDR, Night mode and a soft-light ring for dim rooms.

Under the hood sits the MediaTek Dimensity 6300 chipset, paired with 4GB of RAM and either 64GB or 128GB of storage. Memory expansion can push usable RAM to 8GB and a microSD card expands storage up to 1TB. That kind of flexibility makes the 17C useful for people who keep phones until they really need to upgrade.

Connectivity checks the expected boxes: dual SIM, 5G, Wi‑Fi, Bluetooth 5.4 and NFC. There’s a 3.5mm headphone jack, FM radio and a side-mounted fingerprint reader for quick unlocks. Xiaomi ships HyperOS 3 on this device, and it carries an IP64 rating for dust and splash resistance. The phone measures 171.56×79.47×8.05mm and tips the scales at 211 grams—noticeable, but understandable given the battery and screen size.

At S$279 the Redmi 17C 5G undercuts many competitors while packing a battery and display size you'd expect from pricier phones.

Singapore gets the first official listing at S$279 (about $220 or roughly Rs 19,000), available in Black, a vegan-leather Brown and Purple. Xiaomi hasn’t confirmed wider pricing or global availability yet, so for now this is a regional steal to watch. Who needs a compact phone anyway?
