Poco F9 Pro and F9 Ultra: Snapdragon Power Play and Upgrades

Poco didn’t just release two phones. It staged a careful split: one that leans toward value, the other toward unapologetic flagship muscle. Think siblings with the same face but very different appetites.

Under the hood the difference is telling. The F9 Ultra packs the full Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 — the silicon that’s quietly been steering many Android flagships for the past year. The F9 Pro, by contrast, uses Qualcomm’s newer Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 V Series (SM8850-1-AB), which trims the GPU slightly. It’s still an Adreno 840 GPU, just missing a slice. For most users the gap will be subtle. For enthusiasts chasing raw frame rates and benchmarks, the Ultra has the edge.

Memory and storage split the product stories further. The Ultra tops out at 16GB of RAM with up to 1TB of storage. The Pro caps at 12GB and 512GB. In short: if you hoard apps, games, and video files, the Ultra is built to hold everything.

Both phones flaunt AMOLED panels with blisteringly fast 185Hz refresh and a peak brightness around 4,500 nits. The Pro keeps things pocket-friendly with a 6.6-inch display; the Ultra stretches to 6.9 inches, leaning into immersion and media consumption. Size matters — and in this case, it’s a deliberate design signal.

Photography is where Poco splits the lanes. Both models share a 200MP main sensor sized at 1/1.56 inches, which promises high-resolution capture and flexibility for cropping. The Ultra, however, moves up the chain with a 50MP periscope telephoto (ISOCELL JN5) and a 50MP ultrawide (OV50M). The Pro’s telephoto is a 2.5x unit and it pairs with an 8MP ultrawide. In practice that means the Ultra will be noticeably better at long-range shots and wide landscapes, while the Pro focuses on balanced everyday shooting.

Battery life, too, separates the two. The F9 Ultra carries a massive 8,050mAh Si-C cell; the F9 Pro settles for a substantial 6,330mAh battery. Charging is equally generous across the line: both support 100W wired, 50W wireless, and 22.5W reverse wireless charging, so topping up quickly won’t be an issue.

Both phones arrive with IP68 dust and water protection and boot Xiaomi’s HyperOS 3 on Android 16, with four promised system updates — a reassuring note for anyone thinking longer term.
