Imagine a five-year-old fridge suddenly acting like it just graduated from a tech bootcamp. It can spot what's inside, suggest dinner ideas, and tell you how much energy the house is using. Short of magic, that change comes via software.
Samsung has started rolling out a Tizen 10 update to a select group of compatible smart appliances, aiming to modernize older devices rather than replacing them. The headline: Family Hub refrigerators made between 2021 and 2025 will gain an AI Vision feature powered by Google Gemini. In practice that means better recognition of both packaged goods and fresh produce, and smarter inventory tracking so you spend less time wondering what's expired in the crisper drawer.
Other fridge-centric features are on the way as well. A Now Brief mode will deliver a quick daily snapshot of household status and energy consumption. A feature called What’s For Today will suggest meals based on what’s actually in the fridge. These upgrades will appear on Family Hub screens in 9 inch, 21.5 inch, and 32 inch sizes, bringing a more proactive, hands-on assistant to the countertop.

And it’s not just refrigerators getting smarter. Samsung’s Bespoke AI washers, dryers, and combos from 2024 and 2025 will receive an upgraded Bixby voice assistant. Models equipped with 7 inch smart displays will also get a redesigned interface that includes an Easy Mode, simplifying controls and reducing friction for everyday tasks.
If you own a compatible Family Hub or Bespoke AI model, a substantial software refresh is coming. The company frames the update as a way to extend device longevity while making older hardware feel current. Expect a staged rollout rather than a single global drop, so timing will vary by region and model.
Software updates like this change how we think about appliances. They transform a static machine into a living piece of the home that adapts over time. Keep an eye on your settings menu—your fridge might soon be the most useful member of the household when it comes to dinner plans.
