Galaxy S27 Pro and Ultra to Receive M16 OLED Panels

Samsung's Galaxy S27 Pro and Galaxy S27 Ultra are expected to adopt Samsung Display's M16 OLED panels, marking the first OLED material upgrade for the Galaxy S line in three years, according to reports.

Display changes across the Galaxy S27 lineup

A report from ETNews says the Galaxy S27 Pro and Galaxy S27 Ultra will use Samsung Display's M16 OLED material. The same report states both Pro and Ultra panels will incorporate Color Filter-on-Encapsulation, or COE, and Privacy Display technology. The standard Galaxy S27 and Galaxy S27+ are said to move to M14 OLED material, an upgrade from the M13 used in the Galaxy S26 and Galaxy S26+.

The report adds that Samsung plans to launch four Galaxy S27 series phones early in the year.

• Galaxy S27 Pro: 6.47-inch screen
• Galaxy S27 Ultra: 6.89-inch screen

M16 panel characteristics and existing use

Samsung Display's M16 material is described in the report as offering higher peak brightness, improved power efficiency, better color accuracy, and a longer lifespan compared with earlier materials. ETNews notes M16 is already used in the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, Google's Pixel 11, and Vivo's iQOO 16.

Galaxy Z Flip 9 and Fold 9 series also expected to adopt M16 in 2027

Looking beyond the S27 series, ETNews reports the Galaxy Z Flip 9, Galaxy Z Fold 9, and Galaxy Z Fold 9 Ultra are expected to upgrade to M16 OLED panels when they launch in the second half of 2027. By comparison, the current Galaxy Z Flip 8, Z Fold 8, and Z Fold 8 Ultra use M13 OLED panels.
