According to a new rumor, Apple’s next iPhone Air will be thinner at 5.2mm, a reduction of 0.4mm compared with the original iPhone Air from 2025. The same leak says the iPhone Air 2 is expected to launch next spring alongside the iPhone 18 and iPhone 18e.
The source also claims the Air 2 will improve battery life over its predecessor by adopting a high-density battery similar to the cells used in the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. The report suggests an increase in capacity, although not a large one.
The central point from the leak is straightforward: a slimmer chassis at 5.2mm paired with a denser battery cell aims to address one of the Air line’s core criticisms.

Hardware and camera updates
According to previous rumors, the Air 2 will keep the titanium frame introduced with the original iPhone Air. It is also said to run on the A20 Pro chip, the same system-on-chip tipped for the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max, and to share their smaller Dynamic Island treatment for the front display.
The leak includes camera changes: Apple is reportedly improving the ultrawide camera to a 48MP sensor. Aside from that, the iPhone Air 2 is expected to retain the single rear-camera layout of its predecessor. For wireless networking, the device is said to use Apple’s C2 modem and the N2 wireless chip.
Finally, the report states the Air 2 will keep the same screen, the same amount of RAM, and the same selfie camera as the earlier Air. Those details complete the set of specifications outlined by the source.
