Honor has quietly listed the Play20C on its global website, presenting what is essentially the global version of the Honor X5ds with only a small chipset swap and a new color choice. The company has already put the X5ds on sale in some markets; the Play20C mirrors its hardware while changing the name and a couple of details.
Honor Play20C is essentially the Honor X5ds with only a minor chipset change and a new color option.
The key technical difference is processor choice. The 4GB RAM + 128GB storage variant uses a Unisoc T615. All other Play20C trims rely on the Unisoc T610, the same chip found in the X5ds. Honor lists Forest Green and Midnight Black finishes, and adds Sunrise Gold to the Play20C line-up, a color not offered on the X5ds.
The rest of the hardware matches the X5ds. The phone has a 6.78-inch IPS LCD with HD+ resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate. On the back, a 2-inch touchscreen sits beside the 50MP main camera. That small display can be used to frame selfies taken with the rear camera and it also shows basic information such as notifications and media controls.
Power comes from a 6000mAh battery with 15W charging. That charging speed is slow for a battery this size, so expect a long wait to fully charge.
This is the second budget Honor phone in recent weeks to carry a rear display; Honor introduced the Play 20A with a secondary screen in August. The feature first appeared on higher-end devices from other manufacturers, and Honor is moving it down into cheaper models.
Price and availability
Honor has listed the Play20C on its global site and it is already available in Nigeria. The 4GB + 64GB trim is priced at NGN 149,900, roughly $113. Honor has not published prices for the other trims, including the 4GB + 128GB model with the Unisoc T615.
Honor has not said which other markets will receive the phone.
