Leaked details from tipster Digital Chat Station indicate the Huawei Mate X8 could carry an 8.15-inch inner display and be priced at around 10,000 yuan (~ $1,495). The tipster first framed the device as a “large folding camera” phone and published the new details after an initial report in April.

The leak lists a 6.5-inch cover display and an 8.15-inch inner panel, both said to use ultra-thin glass. That would represent a small increase over the Mate X7, which has a 6.49-inch cover screen and an 8.00-inch inner panel, yielding a slightly larger usable area when unfolded.

Camera and battery

According to the same source, the Mate X8’s main camera will be a 50MP lens built around a 1/1.28-inch SC595 sensor with a variable aperture and an RYYB color filter. It is reported to be paired with a 50MP periscope telephoto module. The Mate X7 already used a 1/1.28-inch RYYB main sensor with a variable aperture, so the new model appears to iterate on Huawei’s existing camera configuration rather than change sensor size significantly.

The engineering sample referenced in the leak reportedly includes a battery larger than 6,000mAh, up from the Mate X7’s 5,525mAh cell.

The tipster did not name the processor, describing it only as a new-generation flagship SoC. An earlier July report also hinted at a chipset upgrade. The Mate X8 has appeared in leaks since November of last year, though Huawei has not confirmed any specifications, price, or launch date.

Huawei has not confirmed the Mate X8’s specifications, price, or launch date, and the leaked details may change before the phone becomes official.
