Weibo user Kang posted video footage showing the iPhone Duo's inner display above the hinge depresses when pressed and can form visible wrinkles; Ice Universe shared the clip on October 20, 2026.

Kang said multiple Duo units tested responded the same way, so the behaviour was not limited to a single device.

Apple designed the fold to make the crease essentially invisible, but the strip above the hinge does not have a rigid backing and is soft to the touch, Kang reported. The surface reportedly snaps back to smooth when the finger is removed.

Kang added that pressing the hinge area can produce temporary wrinkles in the display surface. He warned this could be a potential long-term durability concern, though he did not claim permanent damage in the clip.

Ice Universe suggested the effect may relate to variable-thickness ultra-thin glass Apple is rumored to use. Corning, which introduced a variable thickness glass concept, said in its press release: "This design allows for a device with both effortless bendability at the hinge area and added display durability when compared with a monolithic thickness piece of glass due to the thicker glass on the wings."

Apple has not confirmed whether it uses Corning VtG or another material in the Duo's foldable display.

The inner display uses a replaceable screen protector, which may be a practical repair path if the protector, rather than the underlying glass, is causing the visible softness.
