Monero, Hyperliquid, and Tron May Outperform Bitcoin

A year-end ranking names Monero, Hyperliquid and Tron as potential Bitcoin-beaters, but 59.5% Bitcoin dominance and volatile spot-BTC ETF flows limit a broad altcoin rotation into 2026.

Year-end ranking pins Monero, Hyperliquid and Tron as top performers

A new year-end ranking circulating among market observers names Monero (XMR), Hyperliquid (HYPE) and Tron (TRX) among the tokens most likely to outpace Bitcoin (BTC) in 12-month returns. The review — published without a credited analyst — also highlights NEAR Protocol and Quant as potential outliers that could beat the largest cryptocurrency into the close of 2026. The call lands while Bitcoin trades near $80,500, roughly 27.6% lower over the past year and about 36.2% shy of its all-time high of $126,080.

What the ranking says

The ranking is framed as a relative-strength thesis: smaller, higher-beta digital assets will outperform if capital starts rotating out of Bitcoin. That rotation has not yet materialized. Bitcoin still commands roughly 59.5% of total crypto market capitalization, and that dominance is flagged as the primary constraint on a broad-based altcoin rally. Until large capital flows leave BTC and move into alternative tokens, smaller assets face an uphill battle to sustain extended rallies.

Market snapshot: modest deterioration, not meltdown

The data accompanying the review suggests a slow bleed rather than a sudden collapse. Bitcoin’s price slid 4.5% over the past 30 days and 1.3% in the last week, while total digital-asset market capitalization shed 4.2% in 24 hours and trading volume dropped 10.8%. The crypto fear & greed index registers a neutral 46. Notably, only three major coins posted weekly gains: privacy-focused Monero, BNB and Bitcoin Cash.

Monero’s appeal and risks

Monero stands out in the review. XMR has gained roughly 80.2% over 12 months and recently traded around $599.44, though it remains about 25.7% below its record high near $798. Monero’s 24-hour volume — around $108.9 million — is tiny compared with Bitcoin’s roughly $22.1 billion, leaving XMR vulnerable to large single-wallet moves. The token’s privacy-first architecture, which obfuscates sender and receiver data rather than using zero-knowledge proofs, has also prompted exchange restrictions: Kraken has suspended Monero trading for customers in the United Arab Emirates and halted it for Canadian users citing compliance concerns. Those twin dynamics — thin liquidity and regulatory friction — are the ranking’s principal caveats.

Hyperliquid: strong returns, dilution risk

Hyperliquid tops the ranking’s 12-month list with a 90.2% gain. HYPE recently traded near $75, down roughly 17.1% over the prior month and about 23.1% below its $98 record. The token’s supply profile is the chief risk pointer. Only 222.4 million HYPE are circulating out of a maximum 1 billion. At current prices, full dilution would push theoretical market capitalization sharply higher — the ranking cites a potential market cap move toward roughly $75.4 billion versus a present estimate near $16.8 billion. Additionally, about 14.2 million HYPE tokens are scheduled to unlock on Oct. 29, which the review values at approximately $1.1 billion at prevailing prices — equivalent to around 2.6% of market cap. Token unlock schedules and dilution mechanics are common catalysts for short-term volatility and merit monitoring for any token that investors expect to outperform.

Tron, NEAR and Quant: different stories

Tron is listed as a defensive small-cap candidate. TRX is up about 6.4% over 12 months and trades near $0.33, roughly 23.5% below its $0.43 peak. The ranking suggests Tron’s narrow trading range helped limit downside during Bitcoin’s slide, though that same range could hamper participation in a rapid market rebound.

NEAR Protocol has been a strong performer this year, jumping roughly 206.3 to trade around $4.50, but it remains far below its all-time high near $20. NEAR’s recent announcement that Chain Signatures operations now run inside trusted execution environments and that 17 independent operators secure its MPC network adds to its security narrative — but price action remains volatile.

Quant delivered outsized advances in the past 30 days — nearly a 98.8% surge to around $178 before an 8.3% weekly pullback. The token’s on-chain utility received a boost last month when Quant joined The Clearing House’s On-Chain Money Initiative, a tokenized-deposit settlement project targeted for the first half of 2027.

Spot Bitcoin ETF flows and dominance constrain altcoin rotation

Flow data for U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs underscores the ranking’s cautious tone. In a two-day swing, Wednesday saw $528.4 million of net inflows while Thursday reversed with $635.6 million of net outflows — the largest single-day withdrawal since June. That Thursday outflow pushed October’s cumulative spot-BTC ETF flows back into net-outflow territory. Ethereum’s ETF picture is weaker: roughly $110 million left ETH ETFs on Oct. 22, and combined net assets fell from $17.8 billion on Sept. 25 to $14.6 billion. Over the last year Ethereum has declined about 40.3%, a deeper 12-month loss than Bitcoin.

Derivatives stress is visible too. Recent liquidation data shows leveraged long positions absorbed a disproportionate share of liquidations — 86.36% of $452.9 million removed from the market over a 24-hour window — illustrating how leveraged positions can accelerate downside during chop.

Why the ranking is conditional

The review itself is explicit about its trigger conditions: for the listed altcoins to outpace Bitcoin, capital must rotate out of BTC. Two macro facts argue that rotation hasn’t begun: Bitcoin dominance remains about 59.5%, and spot-BTC ETFs had a large outflow on Oct. 22. The ranking acknowledges a single day’s flows cannot define a trend, but until ETFs produce sustained inflows and dominance compresses below the current level, the thesis remains a relative-strength watchlist rather than a confirmed market regime change.

Outlook: watch ETF flows, dominance and token economics

For traders and portfolio managers, the practical takeaway is straightforward. If spot ETF inflows recur and Bitcoin dominance declines, the odds rise that higher-beta altcoins like Monero, Hyperliquid, NEAR and Quant can extend outperformance. If large outflows persist and dominance remains elevated, altcoins will likely struggle to escape Bitcoin’s gravity. Monitor ETF flow windows, token unlock schedules, circulating supply metrics and exchange listings when positioning around these names.

Bottom line

The year-end ranking identifies plausible altcoin winners, but its thesis depends on capital flow and market structure shifts that have not yet appeared. Investors should weigh liquidity, supply mechanics and regulatory exposure alongside price momentum before reallocating away from Bitcoin into riskier tokens.

Monero popping hard, but that tiny volume is scary. Hyperliquid looks hot yet dilution could wipe gains… watch those unlocks closely, hmm
