Aave Sets New DeFi Record with Over $60 Billion in Net Deposits

Aave, a leading decentralized lending protocol, has reached a major milestone, solidifying its position at the top of the Decentralized Finance (DeFi) sector. According to recent on-chain data and a post from founder Stani Kulechov, Aave became the first DeFi protocol to surpass $60 billion in net deposits—a clear indicator of increasing capital inflow and strengthening user confidence in the platform's security and value proposition.

Aave's net deposits metric, defined as the difference between assets supplied and assets borrowed, reflects both robust user activity and growing trust among crypto investors. As more capital is deposited for lending on Aave than is withdrawn or borrowed, the protocol demonstrates an ability to maintain sustained growth in the face of market volatility.

Impressive Growth Despite Recent Price Fluctuations

After a recent retracement, Aave’s (AAVE) token is exhibiting stability around the $265 mark. Over the past 24 hours, AAVE experienced a 3% increase, yet it remains down 4.8% for the week and about 6% over the last month. This performance comes as the wider crypto market sees cautious trading activity, yet Aave’s underlying metrics tell a story of enduring strength.

Data from DeFiLlama further highlight Aave's momentum: the Total Value Locked (TVL) on the protocol soared from $24 billion at the start of July to nearly $35 billion in early August—an increase of over 45%. Protocol-generated network fees also jumped from $48 million in June to $65 million in July, showcasing not only higher platform usage but also more active lending and borrowing.

Developer Adoption Advance: Launch of V3 Toolkit

To foster deeper growth, Aave rolled out its V3 developer toolkit on August 6. This release features React hooks, software development kits (SDKs), and APIs, empowering developers to build custom lending vaults and integrate innovative borrowing strategies with adjustable risk controls. By lowering the barrier for integration, Aave is strategically positioning itself for the next wave of DeFi innovation.

Market Sentiment and Technical Analysis

Despite these bullish on-chain metrics, trading activity remains subdued. Spot volume on Aave dropped 13% to $297 million in the past 24 hours, while derivatives trading volume fell by 19.3%. Nevertheless, open interest rose 4.1% to nearly $562 million, hinting at a build-up in leveraged positions as traders prepare for potential volatility.

From a technical perspective, AAVE is consolidating at critical support levels. The MACD is negative (-9.31), indicating bearish momentum persists, while the relative strength index (RSI) is neutral at 43.3, suggesting there is no clear trend dominance. The 100-day and 200-day simple moving averages (SMAs) remain in buy territory, but shorter-term moving averages such as the 20-, 30-, and 50-day EMAs are giving sell signals. Oscillators like the Awesome Oscillator and Stochastic RSI also remain neutral, although bullish momentum is emerging. Notably, the lower Bollinger Band—typically seen as short-term support—sits just below the current price level.

A decisive move above $280, which would place AAVE above the 20-day EMA, could trigger an upward breakout, with the next key resistance zone between $310 and $315. Conversely, if support at $250–$255 breaks down, the token may revisit its June lows near $230. Increased selling pressure and a drop below the lower Bollinger Band could accelerate further declines.

Outlook: Will Aave's DeFi Momentum Lead to a Breakout?

With Aave's record-setting $60B in net deposits and continued ecosystem development, the protocol is well-positioned for growth. However, investors and traders should closely monitor technical signals and market sentiment for signs of an imminent breakout or further consolidation. In the rapidly shifting world of DeFi and crypto lending, Aave’s achievements continue to attract attention, and its future moves are poised to influence the broader DeFi landscape.
