Samsung brings One UI to home appliances
Samsung Electronics has extended its One UI platform beyond phones and TVs to include smart home appliances, promising a unified user experience across devices and long-term software support. From 2024, new Wi‑Fi-enabled Samsung appliances will be eligible for seven years of software updates, covering security patches, feature enhancements, and performance improvements designed to prolong device lifespan and enhance smart home interoperability.
Unified software experience across devices
Apps and services across screens
One UI on appliances brings familiar mobile and TV apps to kitchen and laundry devices. Services such as Bixby, Gallery and Samsung TV Plus are being integrated into appliance screens, enabling media playback, voice control and content interaction directly from refrigerators and washers. This cross-device app availability supports seamless media consumption and consistent UX design across Samsung’s ecosystem.
Device connectivity and SmartThings integration
Deep SmartThings integration centralizes home control: owners can manage Family Care, Pet Care and Home Care services from a single hub. This IoT-focused connectivity simplifies automations, remote monitoring and coordinated device workflows — for example, syncing oven schedules with family calendars or pushing maintenance alerts to smartphones.

Common UI features for everyday convenience
Shared UI elements like Now Brief offer glanceable, personalized information such as weather, schedules, recipes, and appliance-specific insights (for example, remaining cycle time on a washer). The consistent interface reduces friction for users who already know One UI from Samsung phones and TVs.
Seven-year software support and security
Extended update policy
Samsung confirmed Wi‑Fi smart appliances launched in 2024 will receive seven years of updates. This firmware and software commitment covers security patches and functional improvements, a growing expectation in the smart home market that supports longevity and sustainability.
Knox Matrix, Trust Chain and device-level protections
Security upgrades arriving in September 2025 include Knox Matrix coverage across refrigerators, washers, dryers, air conditioners, EHS units and slide‑in induction ranges. Trust Chain features let appliances help monitor the security posture of connected devices. Models with built-in screens — Family Hub refrigerators (9") and Bespoke AI washers (7") — will gain encrypted Credential Sync, Passkey support and a Knox Security dashboard for real‑time threat visibility.
Smarter features and voice personalization
AI Vision Inside and Bixby Voice ID
Family Hub refrigerators will expand AI Vision Inside to recognize common packaged foods as well as fresh items, helping with inventory and grocery planning. Bixby Voice ID enables voice personalization so appliances can tailor responses and settings to individual household members. Quick Bixby activation via double‑tap on-screen adds fast access to voice experiences.
Service expansion, localization and refined UI
Samsung TV Plus will roll out to Canada, Brazil and India in addition to existing markets. Washing machines with 7" displays will support eight additional Indian languages, including Bengali, Punjabi and Gujarati. The updated One UI visual refresh introduced on 2025 appliances will be backported to eligible 2024 models — improving navigation and region-specific settings across refrigerators, washers, ranges and EHS devices.
Comparisons, advantages and use cases
Compared with fragmented smart home software approaches, Samsung’s One UI strategy emphasizes a consistent interface, integrated services and long-term firmware updates — advantages that appeal to consumers and enterprise buyers seeking predictable maintenance windows and stronger security. Use cases include centralized family scheduling tied to smart fridges, predictive maintenance and remote diagnostics for white goods, language‑localized interfaces for diverse regions, and integrated media playback from Samsung TV Plus across kitchen devices. For professionals evaluating IoT platforms, the combination of Knox security, SmartThings automation and seven‑year support strengthens Samsung’s position in the connected appliance market.
Market relevance and availability
The move aligns with growing consumer demand for secure, long‑lasting smart appliances and clearer upgrade paths. Eligible 2024 Samsung smart appliances will begin receiving the September 2025 updates and will continue to receive software updates for seven years from their launch date. Jeong Seung Moon, EVP and head of R&D for Samsung’s Digital Appliances business, said the expansion of One UI aims to make interactions with home technology more seamless and familiar across devices.
