A Performance Model Lands in Europe
Tesla delayed the high-performance version of its updated Model Y until now, and the top-trim 2026 Model Y Performance has finally been unveiled — notably launching in Europe as Tesla faces declining deliveries this year. The automaker’s European sales were reported down roughly one-third through July by the ACEA, so the key question is whether this hotter Model Y can help restore momentum.
Key Specifications
Powertrain and Performance
The Model Y Performance uses a twin-motor AWD setup producing 460 horsepower, enabling a sprint to 62 mph in 3.5 seconds (3.3 seconds to 60 mph) and an electronically limited top speed of 155 mph. For an electric SUV weighing about 4,482 pounds, those figures place it squarely among the faster performance EV crossovers.
Range, Charging and Battery
Tesla hasn’t published the precise battery capacity for this variant, but says it uses higher-density cells. WLTP-rated range is approximately 360 miles (580 kilometers), just marginally below the Long Range AWD. Rapid charging is strong: a 15-minute Supercharger session can add roughly 151 miles (243 kilometers) of range, making it practical for longer trips.
Design and Chassis Enhancements
The Performance inherits adaptive dampers introduced on the revised Model 3 but the calibration has been tuned for the Model Y’s larger mass. Visual and functional upgrades include 21-inch forged wheels with “optimized tires,” red brake calipers, and a carbon-fiber rear spoiler. These exterior tweaks aren’t mere styling flourishes — they’re engineered to increase downforce and reduce drag to enhance high-speed stability and aerodynamic efficiency.

Interior and Technology
Inside, the 2026 Model Y Performance delivers small but meaningful upgrades: a slightly larger 16-inch touchscreen with higher resolution, improved graphics and sharper UI rendering, plus upgraded seats. Front seats are heated, ventilated and feature stronger side bolstering with extendable thigh support; rear passengers benefit from perforated heated seats with power recline. Tesla also highlights enhanced sound insulation and acoustic glass for a quieter cabin, along with new drive modes aimed at giving drivers “more freedom for high-speed driving.”
Market Positioning and Price
In Germany — where the Europe-bound units will be built at Gigafactory Berlin-Brandenburg — the Model Y Performance starts at €61,990, roughly €9,000 above the Long Range AWD. Deliveries to European customers are slated to begin in September. This updated Performance model follows the stretched six-seat version launched in China and arrives ahead of a lower-priced entry model expected to boost volume.
How It Compares
Against rival performance electric SUVs, the Model Y Performance competes through a blend of acceleration, WLTP range and Tesla’s charging network. While not the most efficient variant, its higher-density battery cells and aggressive chassis tuning make it a compelling choice for buyers seeking sporty dynamics without sacrificing long-distance capability.
