vivo has quietly upgraded its midrange lineup with the Y500 Pro, a phone that mixes a big battery and a giant 200MP sensor with subtle performance tweaks and a curious storage downgrade. It’s not a straight follow-up — and that makes it interesting.
Performance: small clock bump, bigger RAM choices
Under the hood the Y500 Pro runs on MediaTek’s Dimensity 7400, essentially the same platform as the Y400 Pro’s 7300 but tuned a bit higher with a 100MHz boost. That translates to a modest speed uplift in everyday tasks and games. Memory options are more generous than before: you can choose 8GB or step up to 12GB RAM, a configuration the previous model didn’t offer.
Storage trade-off and design tweaks
One odd change: vivo has downgraded the internal storage from UFS 3.1 to UFS 2.2. Camera: a single 200MP sensor aims for big detail
The camera setup is another major shift. vivo swapped the previous multi-element array for a single 200MP primary unit built on a larger 1/1.56-inch sensor. That promises higher-resolution captures and improved low-light performance when pixel-binning and computational tricks kick in. Selfies remain the same 32MP f/2.5 front camera as before.
Colors, configurations and pricing
The Y500 Pro arrives in Auspicious Cloud, Light Green, Soft Powder, and Titanium Black. Vivo offers four memory configurations: 8/128GB at CNY 1,799, 8/256GB at CNY 1,999, 12/256GB at CNY 2,299, and 12/512GB at CNY 2,599. That’s roughly €218 to €315, or INR 22,400 to INR 32,300 depending on the variant.
Who should consider it?
If battery life and a high-resolution main camera are top priorities, the Y500 Pro is a strong contender in the midrange. But if you value the fastest storage or a larger display, the trade-offs here might give you pause. Vivo has clearly aimed the phone at users who want endurance and camera versatility without paying flagship prices.
