Samsung Electronics has promoted TM Roh to lead its Device eXperience (DX) Division and named him co-CEO, expanding his remit beyond the mobile unit he already runs. The move is part of a broader leadership reshuffle that also installs new technology chiefs aimed at strengthening Samsung's research and platform capabilities.
Roh's role grows — what changes and what stays the same
TM Roh will continue to head the Mobile eXperience (MX) business while taking charge of the DX Division as co-CEO alongside Young Hyun Jun, Vice Chairman and head of Device Solutions (DS). Jun remains responsible for Samsung's Memory business, keeping continuity in the chip and memory side even as Samsung tightens the link between device experiences and hardware development.
Why does this matter? Giving Roh broader responsibility signals Samsung's confidence in his leadership of the mobile business and suggests the company wants tighter coordination across software, devices, and services — areas central to competing in smartphones, wearables, and connected products.

New appointments: Yoon and Park bring software and research firepower
As part of the reshuffle, Samsung named Janghyun Yoon President and CTO of the DX Division and head of Samsung Research. Yoon previously led Samsung Venture Investment and has a background in software platforms, IoT and Tizen development within the MX organization.
Samsung also tapped Hongkun Park to lead the Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology (SAIT). Park, currently a professor at Harvard University, is described as a leading researcher in nanoscience, quantum science and engineering — a hire that underscores Samsung's intent to double down on long-term, deep-tech research.
Quick snapshot of the new lineup
- TM Roh: Head of Device eXperience (DX) Division, co-CEO, continues to lead Mobile eXperience (MX)
- Young Hyun Jun: Vice Chairman, Head of Device Solutions (DS) Division, co-CEO, remains head of Memory
- Janghyun Yoon: President & CTO of DX Division, Head of Samsung Research
- Hongkun Park: Head of Samsung Advanced Institute of Technology (SAIT)
What to watch next
Expect Samsung to emphasize closer integration between hardware and software, faster iteration on mobile and device features, and increased investment in foundational research areas like quantum and nanoscience. For consumers, that could mean more tightly integrated ecosystems and feature-rich devices; for the industry, it signals Samsung's strategy to lead not just in chips and displays but in the software and research that power next-generation products.
Whether this reshuffle accelerates product roadmaps or unlocks new platform opportunities will become clearer as the new leaders begin executing on cross-division projects and research initiatives.
