Tecno didn’t wait for Mobile World Congress. The Camon 50 and Camon 50 Pro have quietly surfaced in parts of Africa, and they arrive with a clear message: endurance and better optics at a budget-friendly price.

The two phones share a lot under the skin. Both run on MediaTek’s Helio G200 Ultimate, pair that with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, and you get a responsive midrange experience designed for everyday apps and social media. They boot HiOS 16 atop Android 16 and include Tecno’s AI features for camera and system tweaks.
Displays are generous. Each model uses a 6.78-inch FHD+ AMOLED panel at a silky 144Hz refresh rate, and both tuck a 32MP selfie cam under the glass along with an under-display optical fingerprint sensor. The Pro differentiates itself with a curved screen; the standard Camon 50 keeps things flat.

Photography is where the lineup gets interesting. Both phones center on a 50MP main camera that uses Sony’s LYT700C 1/1.56" sensor and optical image stabilization, yielding steadier shots and better low-light results than you’d expect in this tier. An 8MP ultrawide handles wider scenes. Then the Camon 50 Pro adds a real talking point: a third 50MP 70mm equivalent telephoto that provides 3x optical zoom—useful for portraits and distant details without losing clarity.
Battery life is a headline grabber. Each handset packs a 6,150mAh cell and supports 45W wired charging. That’s the kind of capacity that stretches multi-day use into a single charge cycle for many users. Tecno also says both models carry high ingress protection ratings, listing IP69K/IP69/IP68, which is an impressive claim for phones in this segment.

Colors span conservative to playful: Moonlight Black, Malachite Green, Nebula Titanium, Fir Green, Lavender Mist and Mint Cream for the base Camon 50, with the Pro adding an Ethereal Blue option. Kenyan retailers have already priced them—Camon 50 at KES 37,500 (around $290) and Camon 50 Pro at KES 44,000 (around $341)—so availability is immediate in those markets while broader launches are expected to follow.

Big battery, a midrange Helio chip, and a surprise 3x telephoto on the Pro are what make this refresh worth watching.
Will these specs move the needle against rivals? Time — and hands-on testing — will tell, but for users who prize long runtime and solid camera versatility without breaking the bank, Tecno’s latest looks like a smart, pragmatic choice.
