New-generation Lexus ES lands in Europe with four powertrains
Lexus has introduced the eighth-generation ES mid-size executive sedan to the European market, bringing a broad powertrain lineup that includes two battery-electric models and two self-charging hybrids. The move signals Lexus' push to blend classic sedan luxury with electrified technology for buyers who want refinement, comfort and efficiency in one package.
What’s new: design, tech and a larger footprint
The all-new ES takes clear cues from the LF-ZC concept and stretches in every direction compared with the previous generation. Lexus describes the car as 'a larger, more advanced ES that reinterprets classic sedan style and luxury for the electrified era.' That extra size helps the ES claim some space vacated by the discontinued LS, with more interior room and a more imposing road presence.

This generation debuts Lexus' new multimedia platform and the latest Lexus Safety System + suite of active assistance technologies. Expect improved adaptive cruise, lane-keeping aids and additional functions aimed at preventing accidents and reducing driver fatigue — important selling points in the premium segment.
Trim levels and interior highlights
In Europe, the hybrid ES models will be offered in Core and Mid grades, while the electric variants add a higher High+ trim. Equipment ranges from 21-inch alloy wheels to a 14-inch multimedia touchscreen and a 17-speaker Mark Levinson premium audio system. Comfort features include an Adaptive Variable Suspension, Adaptive High-beam System headlights, ottoman-style leg rests for rear passengers and a forward-folding front passenger seat for enhanced versatility.

Highlights:
- New 14-inch multimedia display
- Mark Levinson 17-speaker sound system
- Optional 21-inch wheels and adaptive suspension
- Advanced Lexus Safety System + with enhanced functions
Powertrains and performance figures
Lexus will offer four distinct powertrains for the ES.
Battery-electric models:
- ES 350e: up to 224 hp, 72 kWh net battery, combined range up to 581 km
- ES 500e: up to 343 hp, 71 kWh net battery, combined range up to 529 km Both electric versions can be specified with all-wheel drive in Direct4 form, and support AC charging up to 22 kW plus DC fast charging up to 150 kW (10-80% in around 30 minutes).

Self-charging hybrid models:
- ES 300h and ES 350h pair a 2.5-liter gasoline engine with an eAxle and a new lithium-ion battery
- Available in both FWD and AWD layouts, delivering combined outputs of roughly 196 hp and 247 hp respectively
These options give buyers flexibility depending on usage: long-range capability and fast DC charging for EV buyers, and familiar hybrid efficiency and convenience for customers not yet ready to go fully electric.
Market positioning and buyer appeal
Priced in the U.S. from around $48,795 for the EV entry point and roughly $51,095 for the hybrid ES 350h, the European lineup will be positioned to compete with established premium rivals that now offer electrified and EV options. Lexus aims to appeal to executive buyers who prioritize comfort, quiet refinement and a comprehensive safety package, while also serving eco-conscious buyers seeking zero-emission driving.

For many, the defining question will be whether the new ES balances traditional Lexus luxury with the dynamics and tech expected in 2026. With a modern design, a choice of EV or hybrid powertrains, and upgraded safety and infotainment, the eighth-generation ES looks prepared to enter the next chapter of executive sedans.
