Samsung is about to make 2027 very busy. Eight headline phones. A little audacious, a little deliberate.
Fresh reporting points to four new foldables shipping in the back half of next year: a Z Flip9, Z Fold9, Z Fold9 Ultra and a Z TriFold 2. Development on the tri-fold is already underway and suppliers have reportedly been contacted to secure components. The message is clear—Samsung isn’t walking away from the clamshell niche.
If these plans pan out, Samsung will ship its largest foldables lineup yet.
That crowding of the foldable field is notable because it signals a broader strategy: variety over simplicity. The Z Flip stays as the compact, fashion-forward option, while the two Fold models aim at productivity and premium users. The TriFold 2? Think experimentation pushed toward commercial reality—a risk, but one that could carve out new use cases if Samsung nails the hardware and supply chain.

Earlier in the year, the Galaxy S27 family is expected to take the stage. Four S27 variants are reportedly planned for the first half of 2027: the base S27 and S27 Plus as the more affordable choices, with an S27 Pro and an S27 Ultra positioned around higher-end imaging and specs. Rumors peg the S27 Pro at about a 6.47-inch screen, positioning it as a compact alternative to the Ultra.
Staggering the S-series and the foldables makes sense tactically. It keeps Samsung in the news twice, spreads manufacturing demand across the year, and gives the company room to segment customers by budget and feature priorities—camera-heavy buyers in the S Pro/Ultra camp, foldable enthusiasts later in the cycle. It’s marketing and logistics working hand in hand.
Of course, more models bring more headaches: component sourcing, yield challenges for complex foldable panels, and the ever-present risk of cannibalizing sales between closely spaced models. Still, the upside is obvious: broader shelf presence and more entry points for buyers as competitors circle.
Either Samsung is hedging every bet, or it's about to try rewriting the smartphone playbook—one hinge at a time.
