These Nothing Phones Will Miss the OS 5.0 Upgrade Soon

Not every Nothing device will climb aboard the Android 17 train. The company is preparing Nothing OS 5.0, and while a beta is already circulating on select handsets, the stable rollout is expected in the coming weeks.

Here’s the blunt truth: most Nothing phones will get the update, but three older models won’t. That decision isn’t arbitrary. Nothing honored the major OS upgrade commitments it made when those devices launched, and once those promises are fulfilled, further major Android updates stop.

The first-generation Nothing Phone 1 has reached end of life and will no longer receive security patches. The story is a little kinder for the Phone 2 and CMF Phone 1: both will continue to get security updates through mid-2027, even though they won’t be upgraded to Android 17.
