Samsung Display unveils M16 OLED reaching 10,000 nits

Samsung Display detailed its latest LTPO M16 OLED panel, highlighting a claimed peak local brightness of 10,000 nits and saying the panel will soon appear on the iQOO 16. The company also noted the M16 luminescent material is used in the iPhone 18 Pro series and iPhone Duo.

Peak brightness ratings

Samsung Display advertises a maximum peak local brightness of 10,000 nits for the M16 panel. The company clarified that this level applies to a small isolated area of the screen for short bursts of time, described as seconds to a few minutes. For whole-panel use, Samsung lists a global peak brightness of 2,800 nits.

LEAD 2.0 advances

The M16 panel uses Samsung's LEAD 2.0 display technology, which the company says improves color accuracy and power efficiency compared with prior generations. Samsung Display claims the M16 consumes up to 30% less power than its M14 panels and reduces flicker using 3,300Hz pulse-width modulation (PWM) dimming.

iQOO 16 specifications and wider adoption

Samsung said the panel destined for the iQOO 16 will support WQHD resolution and a wide range of refresh rates and touch responsiveness. Key specifications listed by Samsung Display include:

• WQHD resolution: 2,560 x 1,440 px
• Variable refresh rate: 1 to 165Hz
• Touch sampling rate: 5,000Hz
• Anti-reflective coating
• Polarizer-free on-cell film that embeds RGB color filters directly over the OLED material

Samsung's announcement also indicates that Galaxy S27 Pro and Ultra models are expected to receive the M16 OLED panels.
