BYD ETT 44 unveiled with 1.5MW charging, 372-mile range

BYD unveiled the ETT 44 heavy-duty electric semi at IAA Transportation 2026 in Hannover with 1.5-megawatt Flash Charging and a top 651 kWh battery that BYD says enables up to 372 miles (600 km) of range.

On BYD's 1.5 MW Flash Chargers the ETT 44 can charge from 20% to 80% in 20 minutes, adding about 248 miles (399 km) of range, according to the company.

The range-topping ETT 44 uses an 851 V electrical architecture and a 651 kWh pack. A smaller 434 kWh battery is offered for regional use and is rated for about 248 miles (400 km).

BYD provides a 10-year or 1.2-million-kilometre (745,645-mile) battery warranty on all capacities.

The truck is driven by a single high-output motor producing 733 hp (743 metric hp) with a system peak of 1,005 hp (1,019 metric hp) when maximum power is required.

BYD presented the ETT 44 as a direct contender to the Tesla Semi. Tesla's Semi uses a tri-motor layout with a steady-state output the companies list at 704 hp (714 metric hp) and a peak of 1,073 hp (1,088 metric hp). Tesla offers a quoted 882 kWh pack for up to 500 miles (805 km) and a 548 kWh pack for up to 325 miles (523 km).

BYD has released no interior photos of the ETT 44. The manufacturer says the cabin includes a 12.8-inch touchscreen that handles most functions and supports Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The ETT 44 retains a conventional left-hand or right-hand drive layout, unlike Tesla's central driver position with dual displays.

BYD plans to install 300 Flash Chargers in the United Kingdom before the end of 2026 and already operates more than 10,000 Flash Chargers in China, the company said.

The ETT 44 earned a five-star Euro NCAP rating, one of the first long-haul electric trucks to receive that evaluation in Europe, BYD said.

Production will start in China later in 2026, and BYD has announced plans for local assembly in Europe, with the Szeged, Hungary, facility identified as a leading candidate for the line.

BYD has not published final pricing. The ETT 44 is expected to start at about 250,000 euros (approximately $288,520), a range close to Tesla's quoted pricing: Standard Range $260,000 and Long Range $290,000.

BYD attributes the charging and range figures to its 1.5 MW Flash Charging infrastructure and the truck's battery architecture.
