Corolla Cross-Based Unibody Pickup Set for Brazil 2027

Toyota is building a Corolla Cross-based unibody pickup at its Sorocaba plant in Brazil, with production expected in early 2027. Spy photos and Kleber Silva renderings show a Corolla Cross front end and a cargo bed conversion; powertrains may include 2.0L, 1.8L hybrid and a Brazil-developed PHEV.

Toyota will assemble a Corolla Cross-based unibody pickup at its Sorocaba plant in Brazil, with production reportedly scheduled for the first quarter of 2027.

The project surfaced in spy photos from Brazil and in a series of CGI renderings by designer Kleber Silva on Behance. Those images and the prototypes under camouflage consistently indicate a pickup that retains the Corolla Cross up to the A-pillars while extending rear structure to accommodate a cargo bed.

Design and renderings

The pickup appears to preserve the Corolla Cross front-end—headlights, hood, grille, fenders and bumper look unchanged ahead of the A-pillars—but convert the rear into a load compartment. Silva’s renders show revisions such as a more utilitarian rear bumper, new taillight graphics and a tailgate that places the license plate in the bumper rather than in a central recess. The artist also applied larger alloy wheels and slightly more angular wheel-arch trim, though the pixel work did not clearly increase rear overhang or ground clearance, an inconsistency to treat with caution.

Interior imagery used in the renders appears to be lifted directly from Toyota production material: identical infotainment screen, HVAC layout, center console, digital cluster, steering wheel and seat patterns. That suggests Toyota intends minimal changes to the cabin architecture, consistent with a unibody conversion rather than a ladder-frame pickup.

Platform, powertrains and markets

The pickup is expected to retain Toyota’s TNGA-C underpinnings, the same architecture that underlies the Prius, C-HR, Corolla and Lexus UX. Reported powertrain options include a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter gasoline engine, a 1.8-liter hybrid, and possibly a plug-in hybrid variant said to be under development in Brazil. Sources indicate the vehicle will be produced at Sorocaba, Brazil, and that the model is destined for Latin American markets rather than the United States.

Toyota’s planned Corolla Cross-based pickup is a unibody design derived from the TNGA-C platform and is not intended for the US market; a separate unibody pickup, likely based on RAV4 underpinnings, is being considered for North America.

Toyota’s strategy appears to be market-specific: the smaller Corolla Cross-based pickup would serve markets where compact unibody work vehicles sell well, while a larger RAV4-derived unibody pickup is reported to be in development for the US to compete with models such as the Ford Maverick and Hyundai Santa Cruz.

The CGI project and spy images are the clearest public indications so far; Toyota has not confirmed final nameplates, detailed specifications, or official launch timing beyond production timing reported for early 2027. Photo and render credits for the public images go to Behance and Kleber Silva.

For reference, the Corolla Cross is sold in the United States as a 2026 model year vehicle, with MSRPs starting at $25,335 for the L, $27,665 for the LE and $30,260 for the XLE. Electrified variants begin with the Hybrid S at $29,795, Hybrid SE at $31,115 and Hybrid XSE at $33,830. These figures are MSRPs and exclude destination charge, options and dealer fees.
