Foton will introduce the new Tunland pickup to the United Kingdom in early 2027, positioning the model as a more upmarket, comfort-focused Chinese alternative in a market where Chinese pickups have so far struggled to gain traction.

Powertrain and engineering

Foton has disclosed that the Tunland will be powered by a 2.0-liter diesel engine equipped with a mild-hybrid system, driving the wheels through an eight-speed automatic gearbox. Technical details beyond that have not yet been fully published by the manufacturer.

A key engineering feature highlighted for the Tunland is a multi-link rear suspension. Foton says the suspension is tuned for maximum comfort and occupant refinement, a contrast with many pickups that still use leaf springs at the rear.

Interior features and equipment

The cabin combines modern digital displays with physical controls. A large infotainment screen and a digital instrument cluster sit in front of the driver, while Foton has retained a range of practical physical buttons on the centre console and dashboard.

  • Wireless phone charging
  • Leather upholstery with fine stitching
  • Panoramic glass roof

Foton describes the specification as intended to deliver a luxury and contemporary feel rather than a purely utilitarian layout.

UK distribution and market position

Import and distribution in the UK will be handled by International Motors, the company that previously introduced Great Wall pickups to the British market and has recently started importing the Poer300. International Motors and Foton position the Tunland as a more refined, comfort-oriented alternative to the Poer300, which the importer characterises as a rugged, traditional work truck.

The Tunland is scheduled to arrive in the UK market in early 2027. Foton says pricing, trim levels and dealership locations will be announced at a later date. The company also plans to offer the electric van Kawan C1 in the UK as part of its wider introduction.

David Clark, director of the newly established Foton brand in the UK, said: "Tunland is the result of various international technical and commercial collaborations and, by combining bold design, comfort and contemporary technologies, will be a very attractive option for British buyers for both work and leisure."
