Rolls-Royce Unveils One-Off Phantom Hummingbird Coachbuilt

Rolls-Royce has unveiled a one-off Phantom Hummingbird featuring abalone mother-of-pearl inlay, built on the Phantom Extended at a customer's commission.

The car was commissioned by a customer as a tribute to his wife and is based on the Phantom Extended model.

Rolls-Royce says the interior inlay uses sea ear shell, commonly known as abalone mother-of-pearl, marking the first time the company has applied this material.

Developing the process to cut and set the brittle shells took more than nine months, Rolls-Royce says, and final assembly of the inlay motif required 45 hours.

The hummingbird motif on the picnic tables and the rear cabin panel comprises 53 separate shell pieces set at varying angles to reflect light. An adjacent floral motif uses 84 additional shell pieces.

The car's body length measures 5.98 m with a 3.77 m wheelbase. Exterior finish is a two-tone red and white paint scheme with a handcrafted hummingbird motif.

The standard Phantom Extended's base price starts at about $600,000, excluding personalization.
