Xiaomi has filed the trademark XIAOMI SU9 LUX and recent spy footage shows a sedan longer than 5.2 m with a roughly 3.1 m wheelbase, suggesting the company may be developing a long-wheelbase flagship sedan.

The company submitted the XIAOMI SU9 LUX trademark in Class 12, the vehicle category, in Bahman last year; the application received preliminary approval several months later.

Chinese automakers often use the number 9 for top-tier models. Comparable names include Zeekr 9X, AITO M9, Li Auto L9 and NIO ET9.

The LUX suffix likely alludes to luxury, although Xiaomi has not previously used LUX on its products. Xiaomi also registered SU7 LUX earlier. Such filings can be defensive to protect future names.

Spy images and accompanying reports describe test mules thought to be the SU9 LUX and identify the car as a stretched version of the Xiaomi SU7. Reported overall length exceeds 5.2 m and the wheelbase is about 3.1 m.

Reported hardware changes include rear-wheel steering, redesigned housings for side cameras and additional side radar sensors. Xiaomi has not released official dimensions or confirmed the production name.

Long-wheelbase sedans remain popular in China for the extra rear-seat space favored by chauffeured and corporate buyers. Traditional makers already offer China-specific long-wheelbase models such as the Audi A6L, Mercedes-Benz E-Class L and BMW 5 Series Li.

Trademark filings do not guarantee a production model or a launch timetable.
