The 2028 BMW iX2 LCI abandons the oversized kidney grilles in favor of an iX3-inspired front end and Neue Klasse styling cues, a change first seen on a camouflaged prototype. The revised fascia pairs a narrower interpretation of the iX3 grille with slimmer LED headlights and a dark connecting element between the lamps, giving the small electric crossover a wider, more upright look.

Revealed alongside the facelifted X2 in 2027, the iX2 LCI keeps the existing Untere Klasse underpinnings while introducing updated exterior detailing and new interior tech. The prototype shows two large lower-bumper openings with active shutters below the grille and a subtly revised rear signature light treatment, while side profiles remain familiar with the rising window line, sloping roof, large rear quarter glass, and pull-up door handles.

Design and exterior changes

From the front the Neue Klasse influence is clear: narrow outer LED units sit toward the edges of the fascia to emphasize width, and bumper detailing is newly sculpted. Rear changes are modest, limited primarily to revised lighting graphics and a cleaner rear bumper and valance panel. Under the skin the crossover’s proportions and door architecture are expected to remain unchanged.

Interior, tech and powertrain

Like the facelifted internal combustion 3 Series, the iX2 is expected to adopt iDrive X with BMW’s Panoramic Vision interface, a package that could include a central touchscreen up to 17.9 inches and projected information across the lower portion of the windshield, replacing the conventional digital instrument cluster. Some Cluster Architecture models have received Gen6 eDrive components, but the iX2 is rumored to retain Gen5 eDrive technology.

The facelifted iX2 will enter production in July 2027 as a 2028 model but will not be offered in the United States.

BMW introduced silicon-carbide semiconductor components in its power electronics earlier this year, technology shared with the iX1. That SiC inverter helps the eDrive20 version of the iX1 achieve up to 514 kilometers (320 miles) on the WLTP cycle; the xDrive30 variant reaches about 466 kilometers (290 miles) WLTP. BMW is expected to continue offering both front-drive eDrive20 and all-wheel-drive xDrive30 iterations of the iX2, with German market pricing starting at 51,000 euros for current versions.

Production will take place at BMW’s Regensburg plant, which recently celebrated its nine millionth vehicle. Regensburg also builds the internal combustion X2, offered with 1.5- and 2.0-liter engines; the most powerful petrol variant, the M35i xDrive, develops 300 ps in Europe (about 312 hp in the United States market). BMW is believed to prioritize larger electric SUVs such as the iX3 and iX4 for the US market because those models yield higher margins.
