Huawei looks set to push its foldable experiment further with the Pura X2. A fresh Weibo leak from tipster Smart Pikachu hints at a Q1 2026 debut and a jump to the new Kirin 9030 chipset — here’s what the early details reveal.
A slim launch window and a clear upgrade path
According to the tip, Huawei is currently testing a wide-screen vertical foldable — the follow-up to the Pura X — and plans to launch it sometime in the first quarter of 2026. That puts the expected release between January and March and gives Huawei a chance to refine the distinctive wide format that made the original Pura X stand out.
Kirin 9030: a faster brain under the hood
The leak also points to the Kirin 9030 powering the Pura X2. Huawei introduced this chipset with the Mate 80 Pro series in China, and it promises a noticeable performance bump over the Kirin 9020 used in the original Pura X. Expect improvements in CPU and GPU performance along with better power efficiency for multitasking and large-screen workflows.

Design cues and expected specs: more tablet, less tiny flip
One standout detail is the reported large internal screen. The original Pura X offered a 6.3-inch LTPO OLED main display at a 16:10 ratio and a 3.5-inch external screen; the Pura X2 appears set to preserve — or even grow — that internal real estate. In practice, that keeps the device closer to a pocketable mini-tablet than a conventional tall flip phone.
On cameras and battery, the Pura X set a solid baseline: a triple rear setup with a 50 MP main sensor, 40 MP ultra-wide, and an 8 MP telephoto with 3.5x optical zoom, plus a 4,720 mAh battery with 66W wired and 40W wireless charging. If Huawei follows typical generational upgrades, the Pura X2 could refine those optics and carry over fast charging while benefiting from the Kirin 9030's efficiency gains.
Why the Pura X2 matters
Huawei’s wide vertical foldable is still a niche within a niche, but it’s an interesting counterpoint to the more common narrow flip designs. By leaning into a tablet-like inner display and pairing it with a newer Kirin chipset, Huawei could appeal to users who want a compact device without sacrificing screen space or performance.
For now, this is an early leak — so expect more details and official confirmation as Huawei ramps up testing ahead of the Q1 2026 window.
