Think MagSafe is now a given? Not this time. A new leak from tipster Ice Universe suggests Samsung's upcoming Galaxy S26 Ultra will skip built-in magnets, even as it embraces the Qi2 wireless charging standard.
That sounds like a contradiction, but it's not. Qi2 brings a cleaner, more reliable wireless charging experience, yet the magnetic hardware that makes snap-on chargers effortless is a separate decision. Without embedded magnets, the S26 Ultra would rely on third-party or official magnetic cases to achieve the same snap-and-align convenience many users expect.
Google's Pixel 10 series currently stands out among Android phones by integrating magnets into the chassis to unlock full Qi2 alignment and accessory compatibility. Samsung, according to the leak, appears to be taking a different route: offering magnetic accessories rather than embedding the magnets in the phone itself.

Leaks have already surfaced for a suite of official accessories, including magnetic cases, a magnetic power bank, and a magnetic charger that likely pair with those cases. On the charging front, the Ultra is tipped to top out at around 25W wireless, while the standard Galaxy S26 and S26+ may be capped at roughly 20W for wireless charging.
What does this mean for buyers? Simple. If you want the seamless snap-to-charge experience, you will probably need to buy a magnetic case or one of Samsung's accessories. That adds cost and complexity, but it keeps the phone's internal design cleaner and may leave room for other engineering choices Samsung prefers.
Samsung is expected to unveil the Galaxy S26 series on February 25, so confirmation or contradiction is only days away. Will Samsung prioritize modular accessories over built-in convenience? Keep your wallet ready and your charger closer.
