If you thought phone batteries had plateaued at five thousand milliamp hours, Vivo’s latest leak suggests you were wrong.
A tipster on Weibo known as Digital Chat Station says Vivo is trialing a phone with a single-cell 4.53V silicon battery. The listing shows a rated capacity of 10,000mAh, but the typical capacity is reported to sit between roughly 11,000mAh and 12,000mAh — give or take a small margin.
Big batteries are becoming more than a niche. Five thousand is the new baseline. Phones with 7,000–8,000mAh packs are increasingly common in China, and brands such as Honor and Realme have already shipped devices with 10,000mAh cells. Manufacturers chase one simple promise: longer real-world use without hunting for outlets.
But why a single-cell design? It’s about voltage and efficiency. A single, higher-voltage cell can simplify charging architecture and sometimes improve longevity compared with multi-cell stacks, though it brings engineering trade-offs: thicker chassis, heat management, and charging speeds that must be balanced against raw capacity.
The leak also touched on the wider market. When asked about Xiaomi, the tipster said large-battery models are in the planning stages there, too, with the usual features expected. Nothing is final. As for Vivo’s own lineup, Digital Chat Station thinks the company’s flagship series probably won’t jump to 9,000mAh this year; that milestone may land on iQOO, Vivo’s performance-focused sub-brand.
Testing is ongoing. That matters. A device shown in a leak today can still change dramatically before it reaches stores, and many engineering hurdles remain when you push capacity this far: safety validation, charge cycle life, thermals, and regulatory checks.
If tests go smoothly, this could reset expectations about how long a phone can last between charges.
Don’t expect an immediate launch. But keep an eye on Vivo and its rivals — the battery race just got louder, and endurance is back at the center of hardware competition.
