Volkswagen has brought back the Caravelle name in the United Kingdom as part of a comprehensive refresh for its T7 family. While the vehicle remains the Multivan across most of Europe, VW has chosen to reintroduce the Caravelle badge in the UK market. The camper version continues under the California nameplate, and both models share the same exterior and interior upgrades.

This is more than a simple rebadge: the update modernizes the people carrier and camper van offering with sharper styling, upgraded infotainment and improved cabin quality — moves designed to keep the T7 competitive against premium rivals in the minivan and lifestyle-van segments.

Refreshed exterior: sharper lighting and a wider stance

The most obvious changes are up front. VW has fitted larger LED headlights that deliver a more even illumination pattern and greater brightness. On higher trims the lights are linked by a glass-covered, backlit strip for a more premium lighting signature. The front bumper itself has been subtly reshaped with new horizontal and vertical air intakes that visually broaden the face of the van.

Wheel choices move upmarket: 16-inch wheels have been dropped in favor of a 17-inch standard setup, with top trims offering up to 19-inch alloys and five new wheel designs. Volkswagen also refreshed a number of paint choices: six new color mixes for the Caravelle’s 16-strong palette, while the California camper expands the combinations to 24 when the pop-up roof is included.

Interior upgrades and a new infotainment centerpiece

Step inside and the T7 facelift shows clear improvements in materials and trim. The dash features integrated topstitching and higher-quality surfaces, while the focal point is a floating 12.9-inch infotainment display. Emergency Assist is integrated as part of the system, able to steer and safely bring the vehicle to a stop on the hard shoulder or outer lane if the driver becomes incapacitated.

Powertrain features and camping comfort

Facelifted models are offered with dual-clutch transmissions, and the plug-in eHybrid 4MOTION variant stands out for camping-friendly features. eHybrid 4MOTION can run an electric stationary air conditioning unit for up to eight hours, allowing the cabin to be cooled or heated while the van is parked. California buyers retain the option of a classic auxiliary heater regardless of powertrain choice.

Practicality and seating

Volkswagen has also revised seating flexibility. The Caravelle introduces a vis-à-vis layout for its eight-seat configuration, improving face-to-face social seating for families and group travel — a clear nod to customers who prioritize versatility in a people carrier.
