Geely brings its top-selling Chinese hatchback to Europe

Geely has confirmed it will introduce the bestselling small electric hatchback from China to the European market under the name Geely E2. Known in China as the Galaxy Shenyuan, this compact city EV earned widespread popularity at home and now targets European buyers with a focus on practicality, safety and affordable electric mobility.

Record sales and momentum

According to Car News China, the Galaxy Shenyuan topped China's EV sales charts in 2025 and continued its strong run into 2026. From January to May 2026 the model recorded 160,800 deliveries, cementing its place as one of China's most successful electric hatchbacks. In China the price range is set between 64,800 and 94,800 yuan (roughly $9,545 to $13,960), underlining the car's value-oriented positioning in the market.

Specs at a glance

- Length: 4,135 mm, Width: 1,805 mm, Height: 1,580 mm, Wheelbase: 2,650 mm - Rear-wheel drive with an 85 kW (114 hp) electric motor on the rear axle - 39.4 kWh battery pack, WLTP range: 317 km on a single charge - 0–100 km/h in 10.2 seconds - Cargo space: 375 L rear trunk + 70 L front trunk (frunk) - Interior highlights include a 14.6-inch touchscreen infotainment system

These specifications position the Geely E2 squarely in the urban electric segment, offering a mix of everyday range, compact dimensions for city driving and surprisingly usable cargo capacity.

Design, production and market rollout

The model is already sold internationally in markets such as Belarus under the EX2/E2 names and is in mass production at a Renault factory in Brazil. Geely has announced a right-hand-drive EX2 variant set to arrive in the UK late August 2026, signaling a broader international rollout strategy.

"Practicality and affordability are at the heart of this hatchback’s success," says an industry analyst. "Bringing that formula to Europe could shake up the entry-level EV segment."

  • Why it matters: Europe’s appetite for compact electric cars remains strong; the E2 could attract buyers seeking low-cost, well-equipped city EVs.
  • Competition: Expect the E2 to compete with other affordable EV hatchbacks and small crossovers focusing on urban commuters.

Geely's move highlights how Chinese EVs are increasingly global, balancing competitive pricing with established manufacturing partnerships. European buyers will be watching to see how the E2's equipment, safety features and aftersales support are localized for the continent.
