Pixel 11a Leak: Tensor G6, 2nm Hints and Big Gains

If these details are accurate, Google may have finally handed the 'a' line the upgrade it desperately needed. Short answer: the next Pixel 'a' might not feel like a compromise anymore.

A leak attributed to Mystic Leaks surfaced recently with a slate of specs for the Pixel 11a. The biggest surprise: the chipset. After the Pixel 10a shipped earlier this year with a recycled Tensor G4 and left many buyers underwhelmed, the rumor mill now points toward a Tensor G6—or at least a slightly dialed-down variant of it—finding its way into the cheaper model.

That matters for two reasons. First, the Tensor G6 powering the main Pixel 11 family already looks like a generational jump in efficiency and on-device AI. Second, there are whispers that the Pixel 11 family could be the first to ship a 2nm commercial chip. Whether the 11a gets a full-fat G6 or a lower-binned version remains to be seen, but even a reduced variant would still be a major step up from the G4.

The leak also drops a few concrete specs. Internally the handset is said to be called Formosan. Expect a 6.30-inch 1080p panel with aggressive brightness targets: a sustained high of about 2,250 nits and a peak figure as high as 3,350 nits, along with official HDR support. Memory and power look sensible for the price bracket. The Pixel 11a is reported to ship with 8GB of RAM as the base configuration. Battery details are a little messy in the leak—there's a quoted minimum rated capacity of 4,870 mAh. Battery makers often list minimum and typical capacities, and the typical number is what manufacturers usually advertise. Our read: Google will likely use a cell around 5,100 mAh typical, or at worst characterize it near 5,000 mAh.

Connectivity and security could be where Google refuses to trim corners. The rumor list includes a MediaTek M90 modem, promising faster and more efficient cellular performance than older modems. The Pixel 11a is also said to include the Titan M3 security chip, matching the rest of the Pixel 11 family and giving users the same hardware-backed protections.

Camera whispers are thinner but intriguing. A second leak points to a new front-facing camera with the internal codename dokkaebi. No resolution or optical details leaked alongside that name, but the codename suggests Google is treating the selfie system as a meaningful refresh rather than a token tweak. Colorways mentioned include black, green, purple and silver—safe, and a touch playful.

If the package lands close to these leaks, the Pixel 11a could finally deliver flagship-class surprises at a midrange price. Expect the Pixel 11 family reveal on August 12, with the 11a likely arriving several months later—think March 2027 for a mainstream rollout.
