BMW iX3 reaches 50,000-unit production milestone

Less than a year after production began in Debrecen, Hungary, BMW's new-generation iX3 has already hit a major milestone: the 50,000th unit rolled off the line. The achievement comes roughly ten months after the model's global unveiling at the 2025 Munich Motor Show and reflects brisk demand for the compact premium electric SUV.

"The 50,000th BMW iX3 underscores the capabilities of our plant in Debrecen. Never before have we built so many vehicles so quickly at a new plant," said Raymond Wittmann, Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG responsible for Production. "This milestone is the result of an outstanding team effort."

While BMW did not stage a public celebration for the milestone car, the figure signals a successful ramp-up for the Debrecen facility and strong market appetite for the iX3. To keep things simple, BMW currently offers the 2027 iX3 in two powertrain variants: the single-motor iX3 40 and the dual-motor iX3 50 xDrive.

Two versions: iX3 40 vs iX3 50 xDrive

BMW intentionally limits the iX3 lineup to two closely differentiated trims, balancing customer choice against manufacturing efficiency. The iX3 40 arrived only recently, at the end of May 2026, expanding the range with a more affordable single-motor option.

Key specifications

• iX3 40 (rear-wheel-drive): Single rear-mounted electric motor producing 315 bhp (320 PS / 235 kW) and 369 lb-ft (500 Nm). It uses an 82.6 kWh battery and features BMW's 800-volt architecture. WLTP range is rated at 396 miles (637 km) and the model supports up to 300 kW DC fast charging. 0-62 mph (0-100 km/h) takes 5.9 seconds; top speed is 124 mph (200 km/h).
• iX3 50 xDrive (dual-motor): Twin-motor AWD system delivering 462 hp (469 PS / 345 kW) and 476 lb-ft (645 Nm). It packs a larger 108.7 kWh battery with WLTP range quoted at 500 miles (805 km) and EPA estimates between 383–434 miles (616–698 km), per BMW's regional information. 0-62 mph is a brisk 4.9 seconds, top speed 130 mph (210 km/h). Rapid charging from 10–80% can take about 21 minutes in this spec.

Performance, range and charging

Both models benefit from 800-volt electrical architecture, a technology that enables higher charging speeds and reduced thermal stress during fast charging. The iX3 40 achieves a commendable WLTP range for an 82.6 kWh pack, while the 50 xDrive's larger battery is positioned to be a class-leading option in terms of quoted WLTP range.

In practical terms, the 50 xDrive is the sharper performer, shaving roughly one second off the sprint to 62 mph compared with the iX3 40, and offering higher top speed and longer real-world range for drivers who prioritize long-distance travel.

Market positioning and pricing

BMW is targeting buyers who want a premium compact electric crossover with German engineering, fast charging capability and a modern EV powertrain. By offering two focused powertrain choices, BMW streamlines production while still catering to different customer priorities: efficiency/range (iX3 50 xDrive) and a lower-cost single-motor option (iX3 40).

Pricing (approximate):

• 2027 iX3 50 xDrive: From $61,500 in the U.S.; around €74,700 (~$85,065) in Germany.
• iX3 40: From €67,200 (~$76,525) in Germany.

These figures place the iX3 squarely in the premium compact EV segment where it competes with other luxury-brand electric crossovers; BMW's emphasis on charging speed, range and manufacturing scale are key selling points.
