Acura has announced plans to add three new SUVs to its U.S. lineup, including an eight-passenger model that the company says will be the largest Acura has ever built. Two of the new SUVs are scheduled to arrive in 2028, and the next RDX will adopt a two-motor hybrid drivetrain.

Planned SUV additions and timeline

Acura outlined a product plan that will expand its presence in segments it has not previously targeted. The automaker says one of the 2028 entries will be an adventure-oriented vehicle that brings a luxury focus to off-road capable models; Acura has not released technical or dimensional details for that vehicle. The other 2028 arrival will be the fourth-generation RDX, which Acura has confirmed will be its first model equipped with a two-motor hybrid drivetrain.

The third new SUV will be an eight-passenger model positioned above the seven-passenger MDX. Acura describes this vehicle as the largest it has produced, intended to appeal to buyers seeking greater passenger and cargo volume.

Current lineup in the U.S.

  • Integra sport sedan
  • ADX
  • RDX
  • MDX

Sales performance and strategic context

Acura reported that U.S. sales in the first nine months of the year grew by 4.4 percent versus the same period last year. The company attributes part of that growth to the MDX, which it says increased sales by 25 percent and remains the best-selling three-row luxury SUV of all time, according to Acura. Acura also reports that the ADX and the Integra lead their respective segments with three months remaining in the year.

Powertrains under development

In addition to the two-motor hybrid drivetrain for the next RDX, Acura announced work on a hybrid V6 powertrain that the company intends to package for the RDX line. Acura has not released performance figures, timing, or technical specifications for the hybrid V6 or the two-motor system.
