Instagram introduces Reels linking for creators
Meta-owned Instagram has launched a new Reels linking feature that enables creators to connect multiple Reels into a cohesive "series." This update helps creators present episodic content, guide viewers through sequential clips, and build dedicated audiences around recurring themes.
How the Reels linking feature works
Creators can link one Reel to another to form a thematic sequence. You can link newly created Reels or choose from previously published clips. Note that subscriber-only Reels and Close Friends Reels are excluded from linking.
Linking a new Reel
When composing a Reel, tap "Link a reel" beneath the caption field, pick the Reel you want to connect (one at a time), and add an optional title of up to 15 characters. If you skip the title, Instagram will label it "Linked reel" by default. Titles can be edited or removed later, then tap OK and Share to publish.
Linking an existing Reel
Open the Reel, tap the menu icon on the right and choose "Add linked reel" if there’s no link yet. If a link already exists, select "Edit linked reel" to modify it.
Editing or unlinking
From the Edit linked reel option you can pick "Change reel" to connect a different clip or "Unlink" to remove the connection. Unlinked Reels will no longer appear as part of the original series.

Product features and advantages
Key product features include easy in-app linking of Reels, short custom titles, and compatibility with previously published content. Advantages for creators and brands include improved audience retention, clearer content navigation, better storytelling for serialized videos, and potential uplift in discovery and watch time — all important metrics in creator analytics and social video growth.
Use cases and comparisons
Use cases span tutorial series, episodic storytelling, product launches, bite-sized courses, and sequential news updates. Compared with TikTok’s hashtag playlists or YouTube Shorts playlists, Instagram’s Reels linking offers an integrated, creator-friendly way to chain short videos directly in the Reels experience.
Market relevance
This feature underscores broader industry trends toward episodic short-form video and enhanced creator tools. As platforms compete for creator time and advertising dollars, features that boost discoverability and audience loyalty will be central to platform differentiation and monetization strategies.
Availability: Instagram says the Reels linking feature is rolling out globally to all users.
