Rumors are heating up around a new Xiaomi flagship. The Redmi K90 Pro, expected to debut in China soon and likely to reappear internationally as the Poco F8 Ultra, has had key camera details leaked. If the reports hold, this generation could deliver the biggest imaging upgrade the series has seen.

Big sensor, familiar performance

Leaked information suggests both the Redmi K90 Pro and the Poco F8 Ultra will use a large 1/1.3" main sensor—probably the same module found in the Xiaomi 17. That points to an f/1.7 aperture, a 23mm equivalent focal length and optical image stabilization. Early indications say the sensor is a custom OmniVision chip marketed under Xiaomi's Light Fusion branding.

Why the sensor size matters

Compared with last year’s K80 Pro and the Poco F7 Ultra, which used a 1/1.55" sensor, the jump to 1/1.3" is significant. Larger sensors capture more light, improving low-light sharpness and dynamic range. In practical terms: cleaner night shots, better detail in shadows and less reliance on heavy noise reduction.

Periscope telephoto could add real reach

The telephoto camera is rumored to be a periscope module paired with a 1/2.76" sensor, possibly Samsung’s ISOCELL JN5. If that turns out to be true, expect about 2.5x to 3x optical zoom and possibly a telephoto macro function for close-up shots without sacrificing quality.

Ultrawide gets a bump too

On the ultrawide front, the phones may adopt OmniVision’s OV50M: a 50 MP sensor sized around 1/2.88". That’s a clear upgrade from the previous generation’s 32 MP ultrawide on a smaller 1/3.42" sensor, promising sharper wide-field captures and better detail retention.

At a glance: rumored camera setup

  • Main: 1/1.3" sensor, f/1.7, 23mm equiv., OIS (OmniVision custom, Xiaomi Light Fusion)
  • Telephoto: periscope, 1/2.76" sensor (possible ISOCELL JN5), ~2.5x–3x optical zoom
  • Ultrawide: OV50M 50 MP, 1/2.88" sensor

What this upgrade could mean for users

Put simply: better photos across the board. The larger main sensor and higher-res ultrawide should improve low-light performance and detail, while a periscope telephoto adds real reach for portraits and distant subjects. Of course, software processing will still play a major role in final image quality, but the hardware changes give Xiaomi a stronger starting point.

These are still leaks and should be treated as tentative. The Redmi K90 Pro’s predecessor landed in November 2024, so an official unveiling for this refresh could arrive any day. Keep an eye on Xiaomi and Poco announcements if you’re tracking flagship camera improvements.
