Redmi has been teasing its next flagship, and the K90 Pro Max just got a major reveal. Product manager Sun Cun took to Weibo to explain a surprising hardware choice: a circular module next to the camera that serves as a rear speaker. With the phone launching in China on Oct. 23, these early details hint at a unique audio-first approach without sacrificing durability.
Rear Bose speaker, IP68/69 protection and smart dust removal
That circular element is not a design flourish — it houses a Bose-branded rear speaker that completes a 2.1-channel setup alongside the top and bottom drivers. Redmi says the implementation keeps the phone's IP68/69 water and dust resistance intact, a rare achievement for devices with exposed acoustic openings.
To further protect sound quality, the phone uses an audio-vibration dust removal feature in software to clear the speaker vents. The result aims to keep output crisp over time, even if the device sees heavy use for gaming or media playback.

Design choices: denim finish that behaves like real fabric
Sun Cun also confirmed a denim colorway that uses a tech denim material process. It mimics the texture and feel of real denim while improving resistance to dirt, wear and scratches. Importantly, Redmi says the denim treatment does not compromise thermal performance — cooling matches the black and white variants.
Core specs that pair with immersive audio
Leaks and tipsters, including Digital Chat Station, fill out the rest of the spec sheet. Highlights expected on the K90 Pro Max include:
- Snapdragon 8 Gen 5 Elite chipset for flagship-level performance
- 6.59-inch 2K flat display with ultrasonic fingerprint recognition
- 50MP 1/1.3-inch main camera with optical image stabilization
- Periscope telephoto lens for long-range zoom
- 2.1-channel audio combining top, bottom and rear speakers for more immersive sound
Putting a Bose rear speaker on the back could change how users experience games, movies and music on a phone that also promises flagship processing and camera hardware. With the official launch just days away, expect more hands-on impressions and benchmark details to emerge as reviewers get access to retail units.
