Imagine a smartphone camera that pushes past 100 megapixels and camps at 200MP. Sounds excessive? Maybe. Exciting? Absolutely.
New chatter from tipster Smart Pikachu suggests the Redmi K100 family could join the 200-megapixel arms race, with the Pro Max variant as the prime candidate for the upgrade. The same leak hints at periscope telephoto optics arriving alongside the high-res sensor, a combination that would shift Redmi's photography priorities toward both detail and reach.
Last year’s Redmi K90 Pro and K90 Pro Max staked their claims with 50MP main sensors and equally balanced telephoto and ultra-wide modules. The Pro model packed a 50MP main, an 8MP ultra-wide, and a 50MP telephoto. The Pro Max added a periscope telephoto into the mix. A move to 200MP would be a significant leap, not just in numbers but in how those phones capture daylight, texture, and zoomed-in scenes.
If the rumor holds, the Pro Max is the most likely candidate to carry a 200MP camera and perhaps a periscope lens too.

It also raises questions about battery life and thermal management when shooting high-resolution video or lengthy multi-frame processing. Numbers alone won’t make better photos; implementation will.
And of course, timing is part of the story. The Poco F9 series is rumored to arrive in the first quarter of 2027, which would give Xiaomi and Poco plenty of runway to optimize hardware and software for a 200MP module, assuming the K100 launch stays on schedule.
