Samsung's 2027 Foldables: Flip9, Fold9 and a Mystery Z9

Rumors usually arrive like teases — a whisper here, a leaked codename there. This time they sound louder. Sources tracking Samsung's roadmap say five foldable codenames have surfaced for 2027: B9, H9, Q9A, Q9B and Z9.

There’s an easy mapping in the noise. B9 follows B8, the internal name for Flip8, so B9 almost certainly points to Flip9. H9 tracks back to H8 — the Fold8’s codename — which makes H9 a straightforward candidate for Fold9. Simple math. Satisfying, even.

Things get more intriguing with the Q9A and Q9B duo. They could be two flavors of a single platform: one a Fold9 Ultra, the other a TriFold 2. Two iterations of one idea. Or two very different takes on how to push the foldable category into more premium or experimental territory. Either way, Samsung appears to be planning variety, not just incremental updates.

Then there’s Z9. No neat precedent to lean on. The source suggests the Z9 device looks “more tablet-like than phone-like” in its hardware — a phrase that survived machine translation and still manages to tease. Tablet-like? Bigger surface area, a different hinge geometry, or something that unfurls in a new way? The description leaves the door open to an unexpected form factor.

Could Z9 be Samsung’s answer to the long-teased rollable phone? We’ve been waiting for rollables for years. Samsung Display already makes larger rollable panels for laptops, and the company has the supply chain muscle to take a lead. So it’s not far-fetched to imagine a device that blurs the line between tablet and phone by literally extending its screen.

That said, rumor-level details are thin. Codenames tell a story, but not the full plot. A split in Q9 builds or a Z9 prototype that tilts toward tablet territory could mean several product strategies: angle toward productivity, aim for a premium halo device, or test a niche market quietly.

If the Z9 turns out to be a rollable, it would be a milestone — and a clear signal that Samsung is ready to expand the foldable narrative beyond hinged screens.
