SkyNomad N90 Max completes coast-to-coast range run
Xiaomi’s full-size, range-extended electric SUV, the SkyNomad N90 Max, has just completed an eye-catching real-world efficiency run between Shanghai and Beijing. Running on a single full battery charge and one full tank of gasoline, the SUV covered the 1,230 km route and still showed about 54 km of remaining range at the finish—indicating a real-world cruising capability close to 1,284 km and supporting headlines that round the achievement to roughly 1,320 km.
How the test was set up
Shu Jiyun, Xiaomi’s deputy general manager for strategic marketing, shared key details of the drive. The test included four occupants plus 50 kg of luggage. Settings were standardized: air-conditioning at 24°C, tire pressure at 2.9 bar, and an energy recovery mode set to 80% efficiency. The N90 Max ran in Eco mode with electric-first priority and used the vehicle’s assisted driving systems for highway cruising. The average highway speed recorded was 104 km/h.

Real-world efficiency and consumption
During the run the SkyNomad’s pure electric range measured 323.6 km—about 69.7% of its CLTC-rated figure. Electric energy consumption averaged 19.7 kWh per 100 km, and once the onboard 1.5-liter turbo generator engaged, fuel use averaged 6.7 liters per 100 km. These numbers highlight the practical efficiency of combining a large NMC battery pack with a small, on-board generator for extended trips where charging opportunities are limited.
Key specifications and charging
- Dimensions: 5,285 mm L × 1,998 mm W × 1,825 mm H; wheelbase: 3,080 mm.
- Battery: 76 kWh NMC pack supplied by CALB.
- Range-extender: 1.5-liter turbocharged engine from Dongan serving as a generator.
- Powertrain: dual-motor AWD with combined output of 416 hp.
- Charging: 20–80% DC fast charge in roughly 18 minutes.
The engineering approach—pairing a large, fast-charging battery with a compact generator—is designed to offer electric driving feel for daily use plus long-distance confidence on highways. At a starting pre-sale price of ¥299,900 (about $44,320), the N90 Max positions itself aggressively in the Chinese market against other long-range SUVs and range-extended competitors.

What this means for buyers and the market
For drivers who need long-distance flexibility without frequent charging stops, a range-extended electric SUV like the SkyNomad N90 Max is a compelling option. It bridges the gap between BEVs and traditional hybrids by delivering substantial electric range while keeping the convenience of on-board fueling for long trips. In global markets where charging infrastructure varies, that trade-off could be especially attractive.
Whether Xiaomi’s approach becomes a widespread trend depends on consumer response to multi-energy solutions and how rivals respond on price and tech. For now, the N90 Max’s demonstration run provides a strong data point: practical, high-mileage electric travel is achievable with smart system integration—one full battery and one tank can indeed take you very far.
