2028 BMW X7: Realistic CGIs Show Evolutionary Design

Realistic computer-generated images based on fresh spy photos offer a detailed preview of BMW's next-generation X7 for the 2028 model year, highlighting an evolutionary exterior that avoids the brand's vizor-style face while adopting Neue Klasse elements inside. The illustrations were shared by Instagram artist Kelsonik and accompanied the original report published 17 Sep 2026 by Cristian Gnaticov.

Exterior: evolutionary front and reworked rear

The renderings depict a front end that evolves rather than copies the new X5. The X7 retains a split-headlamp arrangement with much slimmer, wider upper daytime running lights that extend to meet a taller grille. In these images the grille shows several horizontal slats, and the bumper reads as sportier with a large central air intake and pronounced outer recesses that house the lower headlights. The hood features more aggressive creases, wheel arches are more angular, and the side profile is cleaner.

Design touches shown in the CGIs include wing-style door handles similar to the fifth-generation X5, discreet roof rails, and large black Y-spoke wheels that fill the arches. The rear is described as entirely new: longer taillights extend into a redesigned tailgate that no longer appears to use a split-opening layout, the rear bumper carries vertical reflectors and a recessed license-plate area, and the imagined diffuser incorporates cutouts for quad exhaust tips. Powertrains and platform

BMW is expected to offer multiple powertrains for the next X7 and to introduce a first-ever electric iX7 alongside the conventional model. Both the internal-combustion X7 and the electric iX7 are reported to share an updated version of BMW's CLAR platform.

Interior, timing and mid-cycle speculation

Although the exterior shown in these CGIs does not follow BMW's Neue Klasse visual motif, the next-generation X7 is expected to adopt Neue Klasse architecture inside. Reported interior features include a large display that runs across the base of the windshield from pillar to pillar, a tablet-style touchscreen for the center stack, and a separate head-up display.

BMW has not announced an official unveiling date. The vehicle is commonly projected to reach showrooms as a 2028 model, but that timing remains unconfirmed. Industry chatter also suggests a future life-cycle impulse (LCI) mid-cycle refresh could introduce the vizor-like face to the X7, though that possibility should be treated as speculative.
