Lexus Readies More Extreme LBX Morizo RR Prototype

Lexus is testing a more extreme LBX Morizo RR prototype with aerodynamic revisions and a likely carbon-fiber roof, spied at the Nürburgring by SH Proshots.

The camouflaged roof appears to be carbon fiber, and the test car shows a redesigned roof spoiler and revised tailpipes; if the roof is carbon fiber, Lexus could lower the center of gravity.

Additional camouflage covers the side skirts and front and rear bumpers, and functional lower vents between the exhausts are visible.

Observers note the possibility of further exterior changes at the front and on the sides, though the current prototype remains an early test vehicle.

Interior photos show the steering wheel, bucket seats with increased bolstering, the infotainment screen and center console unchanged from the existing LBX Morizo RR.

Lexus developed the LBX Morizo RR with input from Akio Toyoda, who races under the name Morizo. The model uses the Toyota GR Yaris 1.6-liter three-cylinder turbocharged engine, paired with a six-speed manual or an eight-speed automatic and all-wheel drive.

The current powertrain produces 300 horsepower (304 PS/224 kW) and 295 lb-ft (400 Nm) of torque; peak torque is available between 3,250 and 4,600 rpm and peak power at 6,500 rpm.

The existing LBX Morizo RR accelerates from 0 to 62 mph (0 to 100 kph) in 5.2 seconds and has a top speed of about 143 mph (230 kph); it is approximately four seconds quicker to 62 mph than the standard LBX.

Standard Morizo RR interior features include leather and Alcantara upholstery, contrast stitching, sports seats and a dedicated chassis setup.

There is no confirmation of increased power for this prototype; the visible changes suggest a focus on aerodynamics and weight reduction.

Lexus has not confirmed a launch date. The prototype could debut before the end of 2026 or in early 2027, with first units likely to reach dealers in Japan next year. The LBX Morizo RR is not expected to be offered in the United States.

Lexus is also reported to be developing an RX Morizo RR for the 2028 model year. Reports suggest that version may use Toyota’s new 2.0-liter turbo four possibly paired with two electric motors for around 600 horsepower, plus more aggressive styling, a retuned chassis, upgraded brakes and bucket seats.

The prototype images were taken at the Nürburgring by SH Proshots; Lexus has not confirmed specifications or timing and testing is ongoing.
