Jaguar Land Rover has unveiled the new Range Rover Sport Electric, a model billed with up to 542 horsepower and a 373-mile range figure that comes with an important caveat. The company’s press material uses the obsolete NEDC rating for that range number, which means the WLTP and EPA figures buyers actually rely on will be noticeably lower.

The reveal also arrives amid a quiet corporate reshuffle: JLR’s official press portal now uses the group-level JLR identity and lists Range Rover, Defender, Discovery, Jaguar, Classic and Corporate as separate brands. Land Rover remains accessible as a regular portal, but the change marks a subtle shift in how the company presents itself as it rolls out new battery-electric models.

Earlier in September JLR introduced the first-ever Range Rover Electric, which the company quoted with WLTP range of up to 372 miles from a double-stacked 118.5 kWh battery using 800-volt architecture and split charging. Land Rover’s headline charging claims for that model are 10 to 80 percent DC charging in 22 minutes and adding 137 miles or 220 km in 10 minutes (WLTP).

Powertrain, chassis and the range caveat

The new Range Rover Sport Electric shares its powertrain with the larger Range Rover Electric: the company lists peak output at up to 542 hp and 627 lb-ft of torque (850 Nm), fed by the same 118.5 kWh lithium-ion battery and 800-volt electrical architecture. Land Rover positions the Sport Electric as the more driver-focused option, with a stiffer body and lower centre of gravity than the plug-in hybrid Sport models and faster torque response than the Range Rover Electric.

Dynamic systems include Adaptive Dynamics, Twin Valve Dampers, Electronic Active Roll Control and All-Wheel Steering. Drive is all-wheel and what Land Rover calls a revolutionary traction management suite, and the company retains core off-road capabilities including a wading depth of 900 mm and the ability to climb slopes up to 45 degrees. Visually the Sport Electric is distinguished from internal-combustion versions mainly by aero-optimised grille and alloy wheel designs plus unique sound design.

UK-designed, engineered and manufactured, the Range Rover Sport Electric will be offered in Dynamic HSE and Autobiography specifications. Pricing has been published for some right-hand-drive markets: in Australia it starts at AU$226,518, about $158,000 at the cited conversion, plus on-road costs. First deliveries there are announced for March 2027.

Buyers should note that the 373-mile claim stems from NEDC figures supplied in JLR’s release, so expect substantially lower results under WLTP and the EPA test cycles.

Range Rover’s Vehicle Engineering Director Matt Becker described the Sport Electric as "an evolution in the dynamic character of Range Rover Sport, with an even greater emphasis on driver engagement and sporting response. The stiffer architecture and lower centre of gravity, combined with precise torque control and advanced chassis technologies, creates a vehicle with sharper responses, greater agility and increased confidence. It feels smaller, more planted and more responsive than you would imagine. All without sacrificing refinement, comfort or breadth of capability."

Pricing for the Range Rover Electric in the UK begins at £154,070 on-the-road, noted in JLR’s materials as more than $204,000 at the exchange rate the company used, and the first Sport Electric deliveries for Australia are scheduled for March 2027.
