Porsche confirmed it is developing a dedicated mid-engine platform for a new supercar positioned above the 911.

The model will act as the spiritual successor to the 918 Spyder and will establish a separate family of flagship sports cars.

Porsche said at its Capital Markets Day that the Mission S concept will be unveiled next week as a preview of the new flagship.

Unlike the all-electric Mission X concept, the new product will use an internal combustion engine and is expected to employ a flat-eight engine developed in-house.

In a statement on its future strategy Porsche said: "We are working on the platform of a mid-engine supercar that will allow the introduction of a new product line above the iconic 911."

The manufacturer's plan focuses on "higher value rather than higher volume" and aims to expand Porsche's presence in more expensive segments.

Porsche intends to increase the share of class D and E products in its lineup to about 45 percent.

Under the new roadmap Porsche will introduce one new car each year through 2030, including electric 718 Boxster and Cayman models in 2027 and petrol and plug-in hybrid Macan models in 2028.

Porsche did not disclose pricing or a production timetable for the mid-engine platform or the new flagship.
